It's been a long time since I been on these forums and I was wondering if there was any word on the Comprehensive FAQ ever seeing the light of day, or is it doomed to remain the convoluted monster of a thread that it has become?
Whatever happened to the Comprehensive FAQ?
The one at the top? It's making slow progress.
FFG had to release Lurker at the Threshold, the dice, the investigator minis, Mansions of Madness, and Ghouls of Miskatonic. That's slowed down the project a bit. But it's alive.
Hey Tibs, are you ever going to take a position on the subtle arguments involving the esoteric differences between "enters" and "appears"? You're probably eating dinner or working at your job or something.
My opinion is still the same: the Werewolf damages you when it appears as a result of an encounter. The semantics that actually tease out the reasoning isn't something I'm hugely interested in though, because it's irrelevant to all other monster behavior.
Thanks, but I was actually joking. (Though at last count there are four situations that it's relevant to.)
Cheers for the reply Tibs....er, and Avec I guess (I won't ask what that was all about, I think I'd regret it!)
.
So looks like we'll get MoM before the epic FAQ then. That aint too bad a trade-off I guess. I take it there has been no official word then from anyone at FFG, Roxas_Lawliet or anyone else?
I think Roxas is long gone, and so is the person who inherited the FAQ project. Currently there is a new guy running the project who has been doing a GREAT job formatting the FAQ and making it very clear.
Since the FAQ isn't profitable, it doesn't have the highest priority. But the project is definitely not dead.
The current lull in activity likely has to do with FFG's many projects. With any luck the delay is intentional—to accommodate an upcoming expansion. I'm not saying that there is one (I kind of don't expect there to be any), and I certainly don't know better than anyone else... but I've been wrong before. Remember that this FAQ thing started before Black Goat was even announced. So, an upcoming expansion is not outside the realm of possibility.
How about instead of another expansion, another release (version 3) of the base game. A release that would include the FAQ, an updated board with the aquatic marker for locations, updated AOs (they already did Cthulhu) and maybe some other eye candy tossed in to boot (say a herald or two).
An expansion pack that only adds new investigators and Ancient Ones?
It will be cool if they included more Mythos cards for the three expansions boards. Then again, the Mythos deck is huge already.
I told myself I won't buy another expansion pack for AH before Lurker was released, but well, it's become habitual.

I'd rather see a version 2.5, where they don't reinvent the game, they just clean up the design based on what they've learned from the expansions. Number 1 on my list: replace the monster limit with vortexes. I am so tired of counting the monsters on the board. (No, don't count the ones with the red dots! What about hexagon monsters with the Black Goat herald? Crap, I can't remember!)

How about an electronic bookeeper in the form of a figure of Nyarlathotep, who offers vaugely threatening and sarcastic remarks everytime you make a mistake or overlook something. Wonder who would do the voice....

I nominate Dam.

Oh, no! Kingsport would be banned! And for some mysterious reasons every time you have to play with a Herald, that Herald becomes the Black goat (pressure, pressure, pressure!), regardless of what you've drawn! ::joking::

She says she's joking, but she's not.
And **** you Dam for stealing my votes before I even asked for them!

I actually thought of you first. But Dam was just too perfect.

Are Mansions of Madness and Ghouls of Miskatonic going to be new expansions?

Nope, but both are issued as "Arkham Files". Search the FFG catalogue and you'll easily find both of them, Mansions as a board game, Ghouls in the Book section.
Honestly, I don't understand why they can't release a FAQ that is as current as they hope now, and make changes to it as it evolves, similar to what they do with their LCGs. This project has been going on for 2+ years, has gone through how many FFG staffers, and the community wants this **** thing so we know we're doing things right. Even now our group still makes house rulings for certain issues where the original rules are murky. If they are worried about frequent changes to a document players are likely to print out, then whenever an update is issued they can release a 1-2 page update that can be printed out instead of the large document itself.
If they are making changes/corrections/clarification to the basic rulebook, that is another matter (and one I can get behind). But they can still release a current FAQ. I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, so I miss lots of rulings, and I'd like to shorted the search time for serious issues.
And I've said it before, and I'll say it again: it would be nice to have a sub-forum just for addressing Rules Questions, so they don't get lost among all the other things that get posted here.
