i have a finished character sheet in pdf format and now way to convert it to something else. if there is anyone willing to check it please contact me so i can find a way to send you the file. or tell me a simple way to turn my pdf into a file i can upload to a photosharing site without having to use a scanner.
please check my character sheet
As I said before, upload the file to a filesharing website, and then post us the link. It's much simpler, and it'll allow you to reach several people with minimal effort.
ok so then here is the link for my character sheet file. http://rapidshare.com/files/437205672/RayneAvalonSheet.pdf
tell me how i did.
Two things I noticed right off the bat: Initiative and Disadvantages.
Speed doesn't get added to the 20. The speed of unarmed is 20. The speed of some weapons is 20. The speed of some other weapons is 0 and -5. Those are literally what you write in that little square (you don't add 20 to them. So all those 40's you wrote should be 20s, and so on)
Disadvantages. You can't take magical disadvantages unless you can use magic. The same goes for psychic.
Besides, Martial Mastery at 3 for a shadow? I can see a use for Ambidextrous and See Supernatural, but I would have thought that you would want either Jack of All Trades (2), Quick Reflexes (1,2,3), Acute Senses (1), or Aptitude in a field (subterfuge) (2).Seriously, that last one is brilliant for a Shadow, having all the subterfuge costs at 1 would make developing his abilities there that much easier, since unlike the Thief and Assassin, the Shadow is a combat-based class and as such needs to maximise the points in his Attack/Defence.
Whereas I would avoid completely all the Ki Techniques, and would just wait to get Ki Abilities. Seriously again, that really is the realm of the Tao and the Technician, with maybe a Warrior managing to fit in it, I haven't experimented with that yet.
On weapons and modules, I would try to save DP by dropping the Ninja module. Stick to dual-wield shortswords, or daggers if you want to throw them. Worst come to the worst, take a crossbow or bow with those shortswords. Really though, you'll want anything that pushes your initiative up rather than down, and anything with the Precise Weapon rule - which makes the penalties for directed attacks by half, and largely compensated by succesful sneak attacks (which I would imagine combine the Surprise and Flank or Back combat penalties to your opponent). Of course, if your character is a ninja, then we'll just have to cope with it, otherwise he'd lose the flavour of the character
What is more interesting are the style modules, probably Iai Jutsu or Disarming Attack. I can see a use for both, but I'd only go for one.
On the Secondary Abilities, errr, how do I break this to you? Needs Subterfuge, atleast Stealh and Hide, and needs it high. To get the points: see above, and remove all points from Block, you won't be using it. As a principle, only invest points in one of the 2 Defense Abilities, otherwise it's superfluous, leads to low scores and can overstep the 50% maximum allowed DP invested into it, so a maximum of 300 (which incidentally you do do, by 8 points). Otherwise Attack and Dodge are fine the way they are.
On one last note, you could take Aptitude in a Field twice, once for Subterfuge and once for Athletics. Hey, that would really give you value for your DP!
Oh, and what Natso said is true on both counts. The speed of the weapons replaces the base weapon speed (unarmed) of 20.
thanks guys. very first character sheet ive ever done for this game so i still have alot to learn but ill get it eventually. and yeah im trying to build a ninja styled character though i chose a shadow class for him over assassin because it seemed more interesting. id love to hear any added advice, rules, or tips you may have for me and ill have the second draft of the sheet up asap for you to check. thanks again for all the help.
Just remember that Ninja doesn't necessarily mean Ninja module. It might be the simplest way, but there are many different kinds of ninja, so having a bit of flair can be just as fun. In terms of mechanics though, you probably won't need that many weapons.
I also agree that Shadow is perhaps a better class than Assassin, since the latter to me seems to be the more western approach to assassination - a contract killer.
ill keep that in mind, i just chose the ninja module because it had some weapons in it that i liked. granted there are still a ton of mechanics that i dont understand when it comes to weapons and how all their stats work in combat. still reading and still learning. i was also wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a martial arts style i could give my character? while i dont expect him to ever be disarmed id still like for him to be prepared.
