Why the silence with Warhammer?

By Smilodoner, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Maybe you'll understand when you're a little older.

??? teasing aside, you really don't make any sense sometimes. if english isn't your native language I will stop messing with you.

I love being told the games I play are childish by anonymous internet people. bostezo.gif

Well the main page has a new announcement. I knew it was just a matter of time, and its exactly the type of thing I expected next.

Give me the next sifting through shadows!

I'll repeat what I said before. Why would they post a new preview pdf when they haven't released all the stuff that is in the old one? As far as I've seen they never do that, you won't get a new preview until the old material is at least "on the boat".

First you complain about the silence, and then when they have an update you seem to think that it's the wrong kind of update? I'd say that the news item they posted now is very needed. There have been people asking about the guides and core set both on this and other forums for months, the news item is a good info post for the guides/vaults.

There have been two shifting through shadows, and warhammer 3e has been out for a year. So one might assume there is some kind of 6 month cycle to these things. The last came out in August; it is currently on the trailing end of December. Therefore, a shifting through shadows coming out relatively soon (and its been hinted at as well) would not be complete madness. That's why I said that. And I was demanding it. I was merely showing enthusiasm, thus the ! . As an aside, I'm happy for any news. I didn't want one thing or another. As I said in the quote you did, I had been expected some kind of roundup announcement.

As to my complaining, I said at least twice I do not expect anything from the designers. They are busy fellows, underpaid and overworked. In no way do I expect them to post on here to make me feel better. All I was doing was making an observation - November had one announcement on the flash page, and until two days ago, December had none. Prior to that there were at least 3 a month, averaging on 4 or 5. Again - an observation. Not complaining.

Don't take it personally, most popular RPGs are childish in their premises and millions of adults play them nevertheless. But returning to the original point, I was only offering one possible option for percentile WFRP to continue as a side project that didn't rely on niche region books (as is often assumed would be the case). Might require producing separate freelancer style guidelines for that line, so maybe not worth the hassle for FFG to hash out with GW (if GW would even consider greenlighting a grognard-horror-WFRP game in the first place).

Don't worry be happy and play the gamehappy.gif

The silence is good, as someone whispered to me, good things will come to those who are patientgui%C3%B1o.gif
And I got the Know to say the How.

....and yeah most things that don't evolve arround work or caring for the family is childish....and rpg is childish. Take it for what it is and have fun, If everyone was more childish we would have less wars and stuff. so be childish, its good for the world.

Good gaming and a merry Christmas to you all.

Well said dude. I suspect most roleplayers are actually adults anyway, and enoying doing it because it allows them to cling to their youth and avoid the crud that is real life and responsiblities... ;)

and wife.

sorry wife ;-) let us reroll your stats now...

I am sorry but who are you? Are you an FFG moderator of staff? Your reassurance is based on what?

Play-tester for WFRP 3.

I received a message about the silence. There's a reason, but it's not my business to say what it is. From what I heard, everything is good.

I some how get the impression that some kind of awesome new WFRP product is in the works... I'm not going to ask you what it is but I have my guesses. I'm guessing that after the black fire pass is released then FFG is going to have to release the Slannesh box set (hopefully with more social actions). Then I'm betting that they have to add halflings to the game. Though one of the things I have been hoping for was a skaven box set with stuff converted from children of the horned rat and possibly mixed with new rat catcher oriented stuff (kind of like how winds of magic has new wizard related actions and stats for Tzeentch demons). After that maybe a 3rd edition conversion for the Enemy Within (which sadly I was never able to run because I came into WFRP during 2nd edition).

Have fun play testing! :) You're so lucky.

I hope there will be something about Undead as well.

Skavenblight is a must for Warhammer setting - I agree.

I'm guessing elves.

I would love an Ulthuan elf box. I hope you guessed right. I would really dig an elf campaign and playing a Shadow Warrior. I would even dig through my stuff in the attic and get my minis out; I think they were some of the first warhammer minis I painted. This would really be a radical change in what the game has been so far, but it would give some variety to the old world roleplaying that we haven't seen in three editions now. It might have very limited appeal though. I would buy two copies:)

Lustria Campaign box babeo.gif

Explore the deep jungles of Lustria as intrepid adventures or conquistadors, in search for fabulous treasures and gold. avoid the sinister traps of the indiginous locals, the lizzardmen, and venture into haunted ruins left behind by a mysterious race.

A thick Lustria campaign box, a part of the world-series of the warhammer world. (whispers: Cathay, Araby, the Dark lands...) I dream, I do. But it's high time to unleash the full potential of the warhammer world, and FFG can do that. babeo.gifbabeo.gif

I aim for the stars, but plunge happily into the sweet mud.

Jeez, that sounds great too. With full size campaign maps that I could frame and hang in my nerd cave, or lay under a sheet of plastic on my game table.

The title of this post kind of surprised me. I'm new to the game, though I've been drooling over it since the announcement, but to me WFRP seems to always be in the headlines over here. I think the mechanics are really innovative and conducive to telling great stories. As a D&D 4e DM I really look forward to Warhammer, because D&D feels like Advanced Descent: Journeys in the Dark.

The upcoming page has multiple entries, more than most games ( though certainly fewer than Anima Tactics and the LCGs, but that's understandable). The new books, the vaults, the Witch adventure, Omens of War, plus the hint of more shows promise. I hope the new books sell well and bring some of the gamers that prefer older style RPGs, and that it's not just a bunch of complainers that have no intention of trying out the new Warhammer FRP no matter what format the game comes in. Either way, I think this game is doing well enough for FFG to keep supporting it. I have no proof other than when I go to the local game stores, there seems to be a fairly constant churning of their stock.

The complaints about lack of announcements remind me of the posts on the Tannhauser forum. They were complaining even though this year they've had a new ruleset, a Wolf reprint they've been crying over for years, and multiple figure releases and announcements.

Also, another way to look at it is, if they aren't pushing it on the front page, it may be because they don't feel they NEED to advertise it and that other, struggling game lines, need the space.

I'm not surprised they don't post a lot on their own forums, because they take a lot of crap on this site and they can't win a shouting match. Besides if they took time to answer every complaint and question they'd get nothing else done. FFG had to read and listen to a lot of unfair garbage when this game was announced. They get crap over box inserts, the color of the borders on cards and why hasn't the expansion to MY favorite game come out yet- on a pretty much daily basis. Which reminds me, I am so sick of those Fury of the Bear fans posting on just about every announcement. FFG pretty much allows you to post anything you want over here. Hell, when they announced a dice set for Arkham Horror, after the initial complaints about every aspect of the product had been posted, someone posted an ad to purchase a competing product-and FFG let the ad stay.

I think a lot of the complaint over "silence" stems from a feeling that things are still incomplete from the perspective of many people.

I know within my group, we have players itching for Knight and martial classes, as well as more vertical advancement for several of the careers. Of course this is going to be the case until they wrap their thoughts around the idea that this is more of a horizontal advancement game, but the main concerns I'm hearing is a lack of vertical advancement as they grow closer to Rank 3.

I'm encouraging them to be creative with how they see themselves; after all, no reason why moving to a basic class from an advanced class has to be seen or played as a downgrade.

Darrett,

We did a fun fix for the lack of vertical advancement: All rank 2 careers (even if you re-take your first career) get a third talent slot (players choice). That way if you switch from Soldier to Mercenary, you don't feel like you're not going anywhere. Ranking then means more than just the career.

The silence has affected play testing too... :(

But yeah, from what I saw earlier: neat stuff coming along!

Hi chaps, I'm also a playtester, and can also confirm that there's nothing to worry about, and can also confirm that there was a good reason for the silence. As has already been said, FFG have decided not to mention why/ just haven't done so yet, so it's not my place to discuss that here, but there's really nothing to be worried about when it comes to upcoming products- more to be excited about really! ;)

price will tell ;-)
