Operation Cyclone and other expansions indefinitely delayed?

By Ebonsword, in Dust Tactics

Per this review over at wargameguru, the *only* expansions currently planned for Dust Tactics are the repackaged units from the starter set which have already been announced: wargameguru.weebly.com/in-focus-review---dust-tactics.html

So, no Operation Cyclone, Operation Paperclip, etc. No command squads, snipers, Vril, or air units. sad.gif

I hope that FFG will confirm or deny this--it seems like quite a few people got into the game specifically because there seemed to be a plan to release regular updates for it.

look on Board Game Geeks a couple of people respond to that and someone who know Paolo personally asked him about it.

"NO WORRIES !!
I spoke with Paolo (we have been close friends for 40 years...), he assured me that FFG DUST-STUDIO relationship is a healthy one ,
all the new sets are in the pipeline and he has the products for the whole next year already developed and molded.
The release plan of FFG might seem a bit slow , but will be constant and consistent .
Paolo trusts FFG , and I trust him. "

Not sure is this is officially a person who knows him but I wouldn't see them doing that unless it flops but its gotten so many good reviews.

I don't think it's time for doom and gloom yet either. The review doesn't say that FFGj isn't going to make the listed expansions, just that they aren't on the plan right now.

I really hope not. This is shaping up to be an awesome game, and I'm really excited to see how it flushes out with expansions.

The author from Wargame Guru is simply native and ignorant. Anyone who works in management knows that it is against company policy to leak out any formation about what is planned or not and should not make any comment until an offical announcement is made. The writer is not getting any insider information but put in his bias view to suggest something major has happened. Anyone who looks at the picture and video from You Tube on Monde du jeu 2010 should know that the next expansion has been planned and the protocol been set. It is a matter of time for the FFG marketing team to decide when to go to production and bring the expansion out. Besides, no company can affort to put down the money and bring out all 5 expansions in a short time period. No even the mighty GW can do it.

I would like to know where the reviewer got his information. We have seen units from the other sets for a while now, so it's not like they haven't made prototypes. I'm not in the production field but I would think that displays at cons and pics of created/painted units is well past the "planning" phase.

I wonder if he means nothing else has the official "green light" yet. Though a good review should not leave people wondering "what he meant".

So I guess this proves that guy from Boardgame Geek totally wrong huh? Thanks for the reasssurance by the way!

Working in an industry where secrecy is standard fare this much of a positive statement by a moderator in an official forum is enough to make me want to buy stock in the company .

The game designer finally opens his mouth:

"Hi everyone,

for those who don't know me I'm the lead game designer of Dust Studio. I have been working on Dust Tactics for a year and a half now. And to clarify some of your concerns I'll just say this: I'm not out of a job. Neither looking for another one .

Cheers,

Olivier."

Understandaby, no secret revealed.

IMO FFG should not be calling the repackaged units that come with the base game expansions. They really not anything new with them, just more of same units. Call them troop packs or something.

Nice to see that Oliver posted again on BGG but personally i think people started crying abit to much in the BGG thread.

With the confirmed new announcement, it is apparent that FFG is doing it very different from AEG.

I can't say I mind. It's easier to buy a rule set and a new "Squad in a Box" here and there then to $300 every season. It would be nice if they firmed up some dates though. At least this time they said "later this winter" which is better then "soon". This makes what, seven announced expantions/extentions in the near future? Albeit this is the first all new one.

I'm guessing a $20/$30 price point for basic/premium.

Would have been nice if FFG kept its promises as to what they said was going to be in the first expansion from the main set. Or at least an explanation as to why they made the decsion to scale it back before they made the announcement as to what was in it. The way they did it, FFG looks like a bunch of liars. I expect that type of move from WOTC, not FFG. Man up FFG, very disapointed.

With an announcement on BBG, and on this forum, I find it hard to believe they would "Indefinitely" delay anything. That reviewer sounds full of croc. As far as the expansions go, perhaps FFG, or even Dust was aware that certain people might look at Tactics as a rip-off of AT-43 and instead of mass producing several different sets of troops, they are still testing the water, making sure the have a sure-fire game on their hands. Adding more troops isn't really harming anyone, you can choose to buy them if you want.

I guess I'm ok with the wait on actual expansions. I'd rather the game catch on than get these expansions, and they call it quits before the really good stuff comes out. Financially it would be a better move.

dude there is already proof the critic is full of crap. With the release of Operation Cyclone is proof and the finding out about the new cards and model with the expansions is another.

Of course I would rather just have my expansions out and get what I want now, but I understand the game is new etc. I think this game will catch on and provide years of expansions and fun in the future.

I'm sure thing's will get under way one there fully thawed out on the east coast seince thats where all Fantasy Flight product is shipped to from overseas however it will be last on the list of priorities so it will still be a while longer until we see any new releases so hang on trooper renforcements are enroute.

End of Line.....

Wow we're still on this topic. People they announced the expansions are coming out soon, very soon. If you get the GTM magazine they already showed the release dates for the operation cyclone. If I remember correctly it says the end of this month thru march. I took a peak when I was at my game store. I dont really go on Wargameguru's credibility. I just think he doesn't like the game in general based off of his review. He just thought he would put a scare into people so they wouldn't buy it. I also think FFG should put out dates rather than its coming soon kind of thing.

I don't pay much attention to game news. I saw this title thread and got a little nervous, as I kind of like Dust Tactics...Glad it is still on track!

Do NOT resurrect old threads!!
