Q: Adama's OPG + Executing Cylons

By Maleficus_Sadi, in Battlestar Galactica

Had a few questions from our game last night, which the humans won. Again enfadado.gif . Albeit with 2 Fuel, 7 Food, 1 Morale and 2 Population... stupid thing is, that they jumped with three civilian ships launched into space during the New Caprica phase. Three ... and still won. Not amused! Our Cylons just keep getting hammered in our game and this is the closest they (we, in this instance) have come to a victory in almost 5 games. Pretty sure we're at a 20% win ratio for our Cylons... bostezo.gif

Q: Adama's OPG lets him draw all of the cards used in a skill check into his hand, but I couldn't find any clarification on whether he would be able to go into the next turn with his entire hand or if he had to immediately discard down to 10 cards once he picked them up (due to it being the end of the turn, after the Crisis card is resolved). Because it essentially makes it so that he can solo the next skill check entirely by himself, even with 5-8 cards thrown against his skill check (which happened in our last game -_- ).

Q: New Caprica Crisis cards are the only way that revealed, non-infiltrated Cylons can be executed. But what exactly does this do? I imagine it would send them to the Medical Bay so that they only draw one card next turn, but I remember reading that an executed Cylon doesn't draw his Super Crisis (which wouldn't matter, since they are revealed), but I also thought I remembered reading somewhere that an executed Cylon discards his Super Crisis Card. Is that correct? Also, what if they have multiple SCC? Discard just one?

Q: During the draw skill card phase, revealed Cylons draw 2 cards out of any skill set, but I don't remember if they can be from the same skill set or not. So can revealed Cylons draw 2 Treachery Cards or do they have to draw 1 Treachery and 1 'Other Color' card?

You discard cards at the end of each player's turn. So Bill can pick up all the cards from a skill check, but will still have to discard to 10 cards in hand at the end of that turn. Now, if he used it on an Action-based skill check (Admiral's Quarters, Brig, etc) he would still have the cards available for the crisis skill check that turn, if any.

Executed characters discard their skill cards. Cylons do not discard their SCCs. Executed characters who reveal to be cylons do not get to draw a SCC from being executed, which is hwere you might have made this assumption (they may still choose to not move from the Resurrection ship in order to draw one on their next turn, provided it is not during the New Caprica phase).

The cards drawn have to be of different colors. The execption is when a cylon leader/sympathetic cylon is Infiltrating, in which case the third card can come from one of the other two card sets drawn.

Ahh, I was sure that that was the way it worked, thanks for clarifying that OPG for me. Along with all of the other questions I had, very helpful, thank you much!

One more question... you said you use a d12 to do Basestar damage between Pegasus and Galactica, how do you account for damaging a resource? happy.gif

six locations on Galactica. One food. One Fuel. and four locations on Pegasus. I'm guessing that's where the 12 comes from. :)

Yes but they is asking what to do with the resource counters as they are one hit only. Simple answer is to do a reroll if the number for a lost resource comes up. Some people don't like this (a surprisingly large number in my experience) as they are convinced that it adjusts the averages of the numbers but mathematically a d12 with a forced reroll for a 12 is identical to a D11, once a result is obtained. Once two resources are gone you can save the reroll time by using a D10.

Hooooly crap!... I was adding in the "Brig" and "Sick Bay" into the locations for the d12, no wonder... what a silly mistake xD...

Thanks for clearing that up! And last game we tried Bleached Lizard's idea where Basestars get a shot on both battlestars. I liked the way it worked out and even with the help, the Cylons were still hard pressed for a win and lost, but I have to admit it was a lot closer than usual... so we might just keep playing that way and see if we continue to like it.

Thank you for all of the clarifications (:

My suggestion is to quit using New Caprica and go back to the original endgame. IMO using New Caprica REALLY unbalances the game in favor of the humans. I think I went through my reasons in detail in another post, but here's a summary of my thoughts:
With the original ending the resources were fairly well balanced; New Caprica screws everything up. Playing with New Caprica eliminates a whole jump cycle and, more importantly, eliminates the need for some of the fuel that is spent for the last jump. I realize this won't always matter, humans may jump 2 distance at once and not even need that fuel, but that doesnt change the fact that fuel is now more expendable. And you can get fuel back on a lot of the short jumps if you really need it. Also, population is more expendable. Since you are always going to lose some ships because you can leave some behind when the admiral orders the final jump, they basically become expendable at any time - you can afford to throw away about 4-5 civies over the course of the game and figure it doesn't matter since you would have left about that many at New Caprica even if you hadn't lost them along the way. So now you have extra fuel and extra pop to sacrifice... maybe it's just our group, but we've never lost a game by running out of food. So what we have ultimately found is that the game changes from balancing losses across all 4 resources with food as the go-to resource when you have to take a loss, and instead the overarching strategy becomes PROTECT MORALE!!!
Maybe everyone in the community will jump all over this post and tell me that the game plays differently for them, we'll see. Also, New Caprica is boring, there are very few spots on the board for either Cylons or Humans to use and the fact that the game ends whenever the Admiral decides it does is kind of lame. We've had the New Caprica ending where the unrevealed Admiral Cylon neded the game as soon as Galactica returned, mass civies die and humans lose. We've had the New Caprica ending where I was unrevealed Cylon Ellen and used my OPG to become Admiral and order the jump, mass civies die and humans lose. Try playing with all the Pegasus additions but throw out New Caprica, use the original ending conditions and see if it is more balanced.
end rant.
