Has anyone made a template for a homebrew rulebook in the style of the official rules? I've converted all the prevoius editions expansions and whilst I'm more or less happy with the cards I wouldn't mind making some nice rulebooks to match

I don't know of a template, but some have extracted the backgrounds (without permission) from various rules PDFs made for games. For the most part, homebrewers try not to do this, as it just adds unnecessary bulk to an expansion archive. If you expansion has minimal rules, you might consider rules "cards" the size of a character card. There are templates for such built into Jon New's Talisman plugin for the Strange Eons program.

The rulebooks would just be for my own private use, the expansions I have made are direct copies of the 2nd and 3rd edition expansions and therefore not something I could have published online anyway.

I see... well, depending on your OS, you might search out a program called FileJuicer. It extras all resources of all kinds from PDFs.... txt, rtf, embedded secondary PDFs, JPG, TIF, etc. etc. If you are using Photoshop, it can open a PDF and give you a choice of opening the internal pages as full sheet graphics or opening any compatible embedded graphic. This is how the savvy homebrewers do it.
