Questions to overwatch modus

By Oberst von Gatow, in Tannhauser

Two simple questions to the overwatch modus, that I hope were not answered somewere in the forum yet...

1.) Does an activated overwatch trigger an other character in overwatch? As an example: character A (reich) and character B (union) are standing in one room, both set in overwatch. character C (union) enters in the movement phase the room, triggering the overwatch of character A. Is the overwatch of Character B also triggered in response to the actiovation of the overwatch of character A? Or does only character A may act the overwatch action?

2.) Is the overwatch triggered by an declared counter attack? Meaning A (reich, no overwatch) is standing in a room (same path) with B (union, set in overwatch). C (union) enters the room, and attacks A, A survived and declares an counter attack to C. May B interupt this out of his overwatch state, to attack A first, before the counter attack resolves?

I woud say no to both questions. In rules:

  • The enemy character moves onto a circle on the same path as the overwatch character. (The enemy character can be moving from a circle on the same path or a different path.)
  • The enemy character moves onto a circle adjacent to the overwatch character.
  • The enemy character announces an action while standing on the same path as, or on a circle adjacent to, the overwatch character.

Since counter-attack or overwatch is neither of those (no moving or activating), the I think that you can't.

Thanks for the answer. My first intuition then would be right, but especialy the counter attack is a little bit confusing. In rules:

"A counter attack is resolved as a regular attack, with following restrictions:"

A regular attack means, that a character performs an action, and this should if you read this in this way trigger an overwatch. This is not really intuitive, and especialy against Yula (with build-in overwatch) a counter attack would be useless, so I think, if there should be a point in the rules saying "counter attack is not an action". So I think, we will play this in further games, that neither overwatch nor counter attack trigger another overwatch.

Now I can see the confusion, frankly we played it, as I said before. Now It isn't that clear. Well that's another goog question to FAQ if they will be ever published.
