What is too "Dark" or "Grim" for you?

as a side note for Jack : no game should be too serious gran_risa.gif It's a game after all!

Getting a light buzz to help people relax is one thing, becoming drunk, not to mention "pretty drunk" is another issue altogether and one I would consider far more of a concern than potentially disturbing subject matter. After all, anything can be blown out of proportions when your players are drunk - this could have just as well been a bar fight, or an npc getting overly friendly with another player's spouse.

Drunkenness at a game is fine if you are playing a light hearted "beer and pretzels" kind of session, but if the subject matter is heavier it really has no place ... as this case helped bring to light.

In our defence, the GM was drunk too.

yeah.. I got bad memories from "stinking" drunk sessions. Its like falling head on a d4, funny die, but not so funny to step on. We banned alcohol ever since the carton wine incident of 2008- "I said we could bring one, not one each!"

beside why drink and play
when you can...
smoke and level up? *

*the writer of this post do in no way encourage use of illegal substitutes...and...everything else is pure fiction.. all right reserved by unconditional disclaimer and limited warrancy...etc jada jada...smoking leads to bad language and drinking makes you attractive and charming. It's true, when I drink you get less ugly. And when I smoke I say "**** dude, did you see that?" alot. lengua.gif

good gaming

Hate me not, for I am inferior to you.
Pity me not, for I do not know suffering...
like your family did, when I emptied my gun.
-Confession of a Murder

Friends don't let friends drink and level up.

I never played drunk yet gui%C3%B1o.gif I wasn't refering to that. (without the experience of it, i would agree with you, it will ruin a session as it can go too far)

Just to the "this is a game" vs "this is serious", even if it takes place is a very dark place (middle-ages / renaissance) where life is so very not cool. I don't play to feel the pain of the setting, but to have fun with friends (and we are respectful of the settings), we can separate gaming and other things. We are not "serious" as we can crack a joke easily even in a "not cool" scene (or just after so we don't interrupt the narrator), and i'm glad.

Sorry for the missunderstanding

Other role players?

You can really ruin the atmosphere of a scene, though, by doing that. Rather than sitting back after an intense scene in shock and going "wow", someone cracks a joke and suddenly the tension is lost and the dramatis goes out the window. Joking is fine, in its place, but I find it is best when one knows where that is.

Mind you, some people prefer their games never achieve that level of intensity - I get that. I know that one of my players is uncomfortable with it and when he plays our games, by necessity, have to avoid that level of depth. Consequently I would never run him in a serious Warhammer game, but keep him in more lighthearted fare.
