Hmm. No recoil for laser weapon was already mentioned.
Why not to allow las-users combine it with accuracy? Allow them to use Aim with Burst/Autofire for lasers. Seems that it can be a significant boon for this type of weapon.

*Useable as Gloworb?*
No, seriously, the normal Troop Lasgun is crap as it should be.
If you want your players to have higher powered lasgun, go archeotech or hell

The lasgun is not crap, not even in fluff. It is simple, efficient and easy. Not crap. Game mechanics do not reflect its effectiveness. You can say "its only a S3 table top ewapon" but then, so is a chainsword in TT.
Its maligned because of TT stats. Read the fluff novels, you will then see it is a good standard weapon. Sure, its nothing spectacular, but its not crap. Its the 5.56mm Assault Rifle equivalent for the Imperium.

That's fairly much all I wanted to contribute in terms of alternate ideas to the DH Lasgun
Not making the game 'realistic combat' as some people have suggested off their own bat, (not mine!) I have enough to worry about as a GM herding cats, long term plots/sub plots and keeping track of NPC's as it is. What I want, is a weapon people will use past 2nd career rank and not shitcan as soon as they have the thrones to get a game-mechanically superior Autogun. If it was "as is", people probably wouldnt have developed the las gun at all and simply refined the slug thrower to a much more advanced level than being what is, essentially a 1960's era Assault rifle vs a hard sci-fi ray gun. Wide scale development always takes the most efficient route and developing something like a las gun would have been considerably more difficult than refining an archaic slug weapon. Bearing in mind, it must kill the enemy, the DH las gun doesn't kill the enemy, otherwise my PC's would have kept theirs.
Now, if you want to hand your PC's (and NPC's) an existing **** sandwich and make them eat it, that's fine. If you don't like my ideas, thats fine too.
But there's not been a lot of alternate ideas past that to making the weapon at least middle of the road.
One word why Las is better than SP.. Hellgun! Good damage, good pen
It's still lacking in full auto. Sure, there's the D'Laku hellgun but it lacks that sweet 7 penetration and at 1d10+3 pen 4 it's really nothing special considering that the autogun does the same thing minus one penetration without needing a backpack.
Personally (as our party techpriest) I adore my las weapons. Why? Because too many times have we been behind enemy lines, low on cash (or in hostile terrain where going to people who would sell us cheap ammo would get us found out if we didn't kill them all... and thus use yet more ammo heh), and my SP toting brothers out of ammo while I can take a minute and recharge between fights. That and I don't think I've found an SP sniper rifle that does as well as the Longlas w/hotshot rounds (duplus clipped) aside from the nomad... and those are expensive and hard to get.
