Responding to the 'free' uncorruption a turn (att: Wytefang)

By edderkoppen, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hey all. It was discussed some time back whether the "new" card that corrupts two when one is uncorrupted can be played in response to the once-per-turn uncoruption during the Kingdom Phase. I know Wytefang submitted this to rules questions. Has there been any official wording on this?

I haven't seen the official word yet.

I think it can be said no on two reasons. However, I am not official. The restore each turn is not in an action window. Just like dealing damage during combat is not in an action window. Second, The restore is not an action and several recent discussions have pointed out that you can only respond to actions and attachments being played. I'd still like to hear the official, but that's what I'm thinking.

Check out page 10 in the rule book under Kingdom Phase.....It states ' The active player also has the opportunity to restore (see Corruption. p 17) any single corrupted card under his control at the beginning of his kingdom phase, before any player actions can be taken. ' Seems pretty clear to me that you cannot respond to someone restoring a unit but you can definitely target a unit in the Zero Phase.

You can target the one unit you know your opponent will restore at the beginning of his turn during the 0 phase. Or you can play this in response to restore ability, like the High elf tactic that restores everyone or the high elf building that gives you an extra restore.

Sadly, I never heard back about this question.

^^I guarantee this will be the official answer. I don't see any reason to think you can respond to the "free" cleanse. It happens during the Kingdom phase between two action windows. You cleanse a unit and collect resources before anyone would have a window to play an action.

Although I understand what people are saying about this issue, I am 100% certain that the reason for this card was to be used at this point. Too few actual 'actions' uncorrupt cards. I think actions can be played because something happened, even if that happening wasn't an action. Take 'Seeking New Slaves'. It is an action after a unit goes into the discard pile which in itself is not an'Action'. I will await official confirmation, but would be surprised and disappointed if it couldn't be used like this. Cheers!

You're right that there are very few mechanics that are Action-speed and uncorrupt, but I would be very surprised if this was intended to be used in reaction to the free cleanse. Its very clearly not possible to use it that way, and I can't believe the card designers would have ignored the rules as you are saying. It seems like it would pair very well with Chillwind, for example, or as a counter to any of the HE effects that uncorrupt a unit.

Also, Seeking New Slaves doesn't have to be played in reaction to a unit dying, just in any action window after the unit enters the discard pile. Actions are very specifically restricted to only being played in Action windows.
