As it is I count every loyalty Race Icon in play as a loyalty but that gets your loyalty so high you may have 7 points of loyalty you can spend though you can only use as much as you have resources to spend. Is that right you count every race icon in play and the one for the capital? and you just don't count the ones you can't spend? -Jeremy

You don't spend Loyalty as such. You deduct the number of Loyalty icons on the cards you control from the Loyalty cost of the card, reducing the Loyalty cost to a minimum of 0.

You do not spend "loyalty".

Cards with race symbols on them (not tactics though) that remain in play, like units, support cards, capital boards etc., provide loyalty icons for you. They don't go away until said cards are removed from the play area. Like if your opponent destroys a support card with an empire symbol on it then you would have one less empire symbol out.

These symbols corrispond to the loyalty cost on cards. You'll know them by the small versions of the symbols on the upper left side of the card under the base cost. For each symbol you lack you have to pay one more resource in addition to the base cost in order to play that card from your hand. So like the blood thirster has like 5 chaos loyalty icons in it's loyalty cost and it's base cost is 8. If you have 5 chaos icon out the bloodthirster can be played for a cost of 8 resources. If say you only had 3 loyalty icons you would pay 10 resources to play the same card because you were 2 icons short of his requirement.

I do play that way your keyword Control tells me you use all loyalty under all your zones and that was my question. I do play the way you guys do but I needed some enlightenment.

So after you have five loyalties in play (while they are in play) you don't have to pay that loyalty or if you have need of 7 loyalty (to play two cards) you need 7 loyalty or just the five cover it all?

Currently, after you have 5 Loyalty out there, your Loyalty cost for all cards is 0. Extra doesn't help, but there is no downside to having more than you need either.

Have you seen the video tutorial ? It is very well done and there's a section they explain how loyalty icons work in the game.
