When do cylons player their skill cards?

By Vorbalok, in Battlestar Galactica

I had a quick question about when cylon players play their one skill card they are allowed into each skill check.

The wording of the rules on page 20 of the rulebook says "A revealed cylon player may - at his option - play one [and only one] Skill Card into each skill check that is resolved.

One group of friends that I play with feels the past tense of the word resolved means that cylons get to see total strength before deciding whether or not to play their card. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't specifically state "after strength is totaled" so the revealed cylon player has to throw his card in before seeing the outcome of the skill check.

Can anyone tell me who is correct?

I appreciate any help in advance.

I just noticed I borked up my title. I do actually speak english as a first language. Obviously I ment to say "When do revealed cylons play their skill cards".

The wording is somewhat vague,

I firmly believe the Cylon plays the card (if they so choose) like any other player, but could be wrong,

I tend to agree... since there is nothing specifically stated that changes how a revealed cylon plays cards (other than the ignoring of text or abilities), the most reasonable assumption is that he plays them in precisely the same way as he did prior to revealing. A revealed cylon shouldn't want to wait until the end - after all, there may be another, unrevealed cylon on board, and that provides the opportunity to muddy the waters further as to who it is.

If the revealed cylon is pretty sure there is another cylon on board, he might play a low card that helps the skill check, assuming that his fellow cylon will play a higher-value negative card. That way, the humans will assume the negative was played by the revealed cylon, and the unrevealed cylon gains an extra turn or two of anonymity to cause more serious damage.

The word "resolved" is not necessarily in the past tense. You can say "the problem is being resolved", in which case, it is not in the past, it is happening in the present. The rules do not say "that was resolved", it says "that is resolved". I suppose that could have said "is being resolved", but I don't see that as necessary.

If they had meant to say "after the strength is revealed", I think that they would have said so instead of leaving it up to a vague interpretation of a verb that could be either past or present tense. So I think you are safe in assuming that the Cylons play just like everyone else.

Yea, myself I couldn't see why the developers wouldn't make a stronger point of the cylons playing their cards after skill checks if that had been their intention.
