I was the lone Taragryen represnatative at this event and was pretty pleased with my day. I haven't been playing competitively very much and I knew consensus is that Targ isn't great at the moment. Still - I put together osmehting that looked like it would last a few Plots and give me a chance to have fun - and this build exceeded my expectations.

I went 30-2 on the day and was playing for the cut at 3-1 - which is pretty much my main goal at any competitive event these days, not having the time to devote to the game to elevate my play to teh next lelve.

The Agenda really gives Targaryen the flat resource curve it is always looking for. Wiht teh Agenda + red Keep on the baord - literally all your tricks are viable - Blood Knight becomes playable again boosting challneg phase activity with a re-usuabble tricon. Westeros Bleeds gives you an added level of reset and mass removal. The Hatchlings Feast becomes a staple - not a luxury. And between teh Dothraki Hunters and the Dragon Thieves - you have serious Ambush characters to supplement the Khal and the Queen's Knights for in Challenge phase surprises.

I was able to get lots of fun combos off multple Forever Burns on my own Crone for cards, Playing a weenie under Threat just to trigger a Parting Blow and kneeling out a threat charatcer during Marshalling and othe fun things. I lost to twn2dn and the mass reveal pwoer of Martell - I hung in there with the lead until Plot Six or so until his engine rolled over me (he drew 11+ cards off a Valar Morghuis and just outmuscled me) I also dropped a quick game to bloodycelt in teh cut round - when I couldn't get at Eddard who was leading a Baratheon Summer rush. And that was the big weakness of my deck. If I had really put more time and work in - I would have run this with a better draw engine: certainly another Val, maybe king's Landign as well. This deck wnats its burn tools in hand for spot control and to take out teh claim soak - because it can drive home the wins in challenge phase and make those Claim 2's really hurt. Plus the multiple resets can address a variety of character based strategies - for big powerhouses you have threat, for Swarm you have Threat and both are backed up by Valar.

Long story short: I really like Dobbler's agenda for Targaryen. I see Fear of Winter bascially shutting this deck/Agenda down for a Turn - so be wary of that out of a rush deck. But that is pretty much the only tarde off. The gold/initaive (which I forgoit about all day long) and the INF are godsends for resource hogging Targ decks - and they dothraki theme gives them some decent challenge phase trick. i am probably going to scale this theme back even farther though an add a litle more burn in. I just really wish we had a Dany who was a real asset and some dragons that keyed off Ambush! Can't we get the 5K dragons (or soem variation thereof) back please?

Thanks to all my opponents and the East Coast meta community for a great holiday tournament.

Looks interesting... I've been trying to build a Targ KotHH deck and it just takes too long to get moving against a quick joust deck. Did you have trouble recovering from the lack of setup, or did you find yourself using MttW, Valar, and Westeros Bleeds to clear the board a lot?

I sure did! I got erh Bleeds off in all my wins and just about every agme - soemtimes I would Bleed just one or two threat characters away if I didn't have another answer.

Marched was HUGE - especially against Fatmouse's uber Viper in Round 2 and Valar helped all day long and would have set bloodycelt way back in the cut round if I could have gotten to it.

The deck IS goign to start slow and after Marshalling you will be behind by tow or three characters. Taht's why you need to lead with a control Plot early - if they flop four, Valar on Turn 1! With the agenda its now a 4/2/1 Plot and you don't lose anyone to it. and of course - if they only Flop one character - punish them with Marched.

The jkey is - oyu need to get your control element early so you can survive the early rush and deal with fast threats. I might add the Shadows burn attachments, definitely a third Hatchling's Feast when I get my hands on one, and some more draw to get the kill cards in hand

You just need to hold the ruh off for a little bit to turn the tide with repeatable burn and massive resets. Thanks for the feedback!

At first I saw 30-2 and was very impressed! Then I remembered it was Sgat Ldor and discounted the record back to 3-2. lengua.gif

Seriously though - cool deck. I know I am in the minority but I love Targ right now. Burn just helps against so many different arch-types, and as you said the Hollow Hill Agenda bascially is +4 gold for Targ.

Did you like any of the new Dothraki stuff? I really think the weapon that comes out during the challenge and kills someone is pretty strong.

Congrats and good to see!

Well - it started out wiht a lot more Dothraki stuff in it - then I ended up cutting a lot back. I'm not big on buff attachments so i barely glaned at the Arakh or the bow or whatever that weapon is. I guess the kill is nice - but its probably a luxury given how many resets i am running.

I do love the ambush Hunters that go back in your hand. They aren't Horseback Archers but theya re solid: and they are the strongest Dothraki cards at the moment in LCG. The Screamers (the guys that give an extra MILchallenge) look good on paper, but I found that I rarely had enough guys to pull off the second attack. Plus its often just them - so given they are only 1 STR - I'm not sure they are worth the slot.

The dothraki theme is OK - nothing more. It basically focuses on just one challenge and gives you some tricks. Meh - Stark does it better, Greyjoy probably does too. and any challenge based deck is vulnerable to disruption. If the Siege Agenda was open to all Houses - you might be on to something.

I am playing the Dothraki for flavor and theme - not that i think they are really competitive. The strength of the deck is the agenda and how ti drives re-usable burn and control effects.

While I can't pass full judgment without the whole cycle out yet, it seems like for now Dothraki will be and is a nice little sub-theme for Targaryen. I'm uncertain if we'll see fully blown out Dothraki decks. It seems like they'll need a bit more for that to really happen (Targ box?). I'm personally skeptical about the consistency of the Dothraki attachments between getting them in hand and being able to play them on a character that is worthwhile. Targ does have attachment search, but that kind of ruins the surprise of using Ambush mid-challenge. It's definitely strong if you can pull it off.

I think KOTHH can be pretty good for Targ considering how many attachments and events they can run. Integrate recursion into it and you can be onto something. I agree it's a natural fit resource wise -- lightening up a normally location/resource heavy House. For a deck that was whipped up relatively quickly and didn't really see any play prior to the tournament, I found Stag's deck pretty good and heading towards the right direction of what a Targ KOTHH build should look like.

I'm glad we only faced each other once; otherwise, I probably would have been toast, lol.

provided you are playing with a decent number of dothraki, why would it matter who you played them on? Their extra gametext for being on their matching character isn't that huge and if you put it on someone else and they get killed then their low cost means they will be coming out of the discard quickly with the Chambers out.

Well that's assuming you are running LDC (which is probably a good idea). I also just realized that the No Attachment Dothraki characters accept Weapon attachments. KOTHH would free up enough resource cards to comfortably run LDC, Vaes Dothrak, Womb of the World, etc. Not entirely sure if it's worth giving up set up, but it may be. I'm really waiting for the cycle to be fully released before passing full judgement and fooling around with them.

Eh......I'm not sure teh +2 gold lets you go crazy with gimmick locations like VD, Aegon's hill, Womb of the World etc. Youa re losing your setup - so when you cards - you really want to characters until you have control.

i wouldn't go that route, but bloodycelt and someone else asked me why I wasn't running either VD or Aegon's Hill.
