Checking something about monster stats

By UniversalHead, in WFRP Rules Questions

Just something I wanted to check - sometimes some stats are written as, for example on a Toughness stat:

3 (1) [FORTUNE DIE]

and sometimes

3 [FORTUNE DIE] (1)

Are these the same thing ( 3 Toughness and a fortune die, and 1 Soak ), or is the first example 3 Toughness, and 1 Soak with a fortune die ?

I must admit that the second option never even occurred to me - I've played both methods as toughness + fortune dice, soak.

Now that you've pointed it out it doesn't seem as clear (though thinking about it I'm not sure how a fortune die would work with soak?)- I think my gut reaction though is to keep playing it this way. I'll be interested to see what everyone has to say.

I'd go with the first idea (3 Toughness and a fortune die, and 1 Soak), the second has never even crossed my mind.

To answer the asked question - yes. They are the same (possibly a misprint).

I suspect that the fortune die is meant to apply to the Toughness characteristic's dice pool in both cases as another poster notes above, I'm not even sure how one would apply a fortune die (with symbolic results) to a soak rating, which is a pure number.

Of course - doh! Thanks folks.
