I can't find the button to email the staff, so I will put this here. I would like to offer up my services to FFG as a copy editor. I truly enjoy the 40K RPG settings, rules, fluff, etc., but every time I sit down to read a book my head starts to hurt from all of the errors in the text. I know there are time constraints and what-not to get books out, but just send me one when you do the beta-thing and I will look for errors! My eyes are bleeding all over these beautiful books!
It Makes My Eyes Bleed

I second that
No, because I said in the OP I didn't know where to find it. But I will know, thanks.

I know this might seem a mite trollish of me, but I just simply could not stop myself. How do you expect to be able to handle a whole book when you cannot even type a single line of text on a forum without a typo in it? Content editing is harder than you think eh.

Seconded

There are huge differences in the amount of spell-checking effort needed if you compare a printed high-quality product that you expect payment for to a short note of "thank you" on an internet forum.
Now please note how I do not correct you on the lack of a questionmark after the query at the end of your last sentence. You have manged your intended communication more than fine as it is. If that sentence was about to be printed in a professional publication I would probably suggest you leave out the last "eh" completely, since I find it unneccessarily harsh.

True. However, when you are basically applying for an editing position on a forum every post is part of your resume. Making jarring errors that are easily spotted do not help your case. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I'm also not claiming to be superior to a professional editor.

There is actually a word to describe what Melion just did here (bolded text), in which one explicitly mentions what they say they will not mention. Truly elegant sophistry, though it makes you look like a twit with a stick up your ass. (...and honestly, "unnecessarily harsh" should never describe the use of the word "eh" given how UncleArkie used it)
I, on the other hand, will be blunt about what is, in fact, a truly innocuous nitpick of what is otherwise good (though incredibly stiff and formal) grammar: you mistyped "managed" in the third paragraph. What does that mean? In my barely sufficiently humble opinion, not a whole lot. In that, I agree with you... which is why I'm disappointed by the passive-aggressive response. Drink thy own bitter brew.
The fact of the matter is that it doesn't really mean squat, and this whole "whose grammar/**** is biggest" aspect of this discussion is ultimately irrelevant, and should probably be dropped. Sound reasonable to everyone?
Thank you for the heads up Unusual. I did indeed get carried away with my annoyance over the nitpicking over spelling on a forum and let it get the better of me. My style of writing (stiff, formal and somewhat stick-up-my-butt) I blame on reading way to many academical texts and speaking too little english. I believe that often makes me come out as a nastier person than what I inted.
I agree with you. Lets this with an apology to UncleArkie for me acting like a prick against you. I'm sorry about that.
I agree with Melon, there's a BIG difference between an internet forum post and a published book.
I personally never correct another posters grammar, it's a sign the point of a discussion is being missed imo. We don't use normal grammar on forums, we are often posting quick and on the fly. Spelling and grammar on such posts are kinda unimportant.
Typos in a published book to the levels we always see in these 40k rpg books are far less forgiveable.

Send an email to their freelance account and fill out the questioneers and editing quiz they give you. If any of you are that good you certainly should have no problem passing them. Meh, I'd apologize for being irritable but after seeing at least six of these threads in the 40k RPG boards already I'm more then a little tired of the complaining without hearing about someone taking the "problem" head-on. Fix the problem, get paid for being such a big fan. That seems simple enough for me.
No need for an apology, I in no way shape or form felt offended. Also there was no question mark because it was not a question, it was a statement worded in a question like form yes, but still a statement. And yes I do agree with the whole this is a forum and no one cares about spelling and grammar ect, but in this case when you start a thread about how the editing makes your eyes bleed then you should maybe pay a little more attention since you have pretty much just thrown a stone and now reside in the oh so famous transparent domicile.
Besides when you correct others, especially on the internet, you should be ready for others to correct you
. All of that said, I do agree that the books need more editing and could you please maybe also just have someone make sure that the typeface used on splash pages actually contains the symbols used, thank you.
We did have someone else make a post out this some times ago and he was turned down. I cannot remember his name, but as far as I remember he was a professional proofreader and dealt with legal and medical documents used in government, in other words someone who at least claimed to know what he was talking about and he was apparently declined even when he offered to do it for free. (anyone have the link to his thread?)
