Alternate Careers that start over Rank 1 are simple enough for me to understand, especially with the 2 well written examples. My question is harder to figure out because the wording can be interpreted two ways and there's no published Errata yet for it.

Take the Drusian Adherent. It says you can take it at Alternate Rank 1. In the Note section it says "Although this Rank has the option of replacing the first Rank of a Career, it does not re-list any starting Skills and Talents. All Skills and Talents listed here are in addition to starting Skills and Talents the Career may contain."

Interpretation 1: Add all these Skills and Talents, barring repeats, to my Career Rank 1 (should I take it at Rank 1).

Interpretation 2: Add my Career starting Skills and Talents to Drusian Adherent Alternate Class (should I take it at Rank 1).

Which is it?

Just use the excisting starting skills from said career (Explorator, Seneschal, etc) but you can buy additional skills and talents from the alternate career...

Just disregard the note. It's irrelevant for our purposes. The only thing that matters is that you get your starting skills and talents, may purchase skills and talents from the base rank 1 as elite advances, and have the Drusian Adherent as your new Rank 1.

Okay, let me explain:

Johan is an Arch Militant and starts out as an Drusian Adherant, he gains all the skills, talents and Equipment from the black box on the top of page 45 of the RT Core Book, but instead of choosing the skills and talents he buys at Rank 1 from the standard table he instead gets to buy them from the table of the Drusian Adherent on page 79 of the RT: ItS book.

So in effect he loses access to the rank 1 Arch Militant Table and gains access to the Drusian Adherent Table....
