According to the rules you roll 1d5 and consult the critical hit table when a ship suffers a critical hit. But the critical hit table continues with results up to 11? How do I get worse critical hits than 1-5?
Ship critical hits?
This is probably the most commonly asked question about Starship Combat.
When an attack gets degrees of success equal or greater to the weapon's Critical number, then 1d5 is rolled on the chart.
In addition to this, when a ship is crippled- reduced to zero hull integrity- every hit that gets past the armour will cause a critical. Hull integrity cannot go below zero, so any points after that are applied as a critical.
Examples:-
A ship has 7 hull hull integrity left. A hit causes 11 points of damage. With 4 points left over, the ship suffers result 4 on the critical table.
A ship has 0 hull integrity remaining and is crippled. A hit gets 8 points through the armour, and so it suffers result 8 on the criticals chart.
Note that unlike criticals on human-sized enemies the ship never goes into negative values for Hull Integrity. It stays at zero and every hit is applied individually. So if the two examples were applied to the same ship, then it suffers a 4 and 8 critical result. The two do not stack to give a 4 then a 12.
thank you for that clarification.
