How does the mechanics for Armor work?

By Inomine, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

I'm sorry if this seems like a dumb question. I bought the book rather recently and have begun to get a grasp of the rules and CC. But what continues to befuddle my understanding is this simple thing: How does Armor work? I have read and re-read the armor section, and everything I can see is that it says 'armor goes from 0 to 10 and the higher you have the better you are protected'.. But for the love of gaming, I cant find or understand just how it actually works.

Can someeone please explain it to me, or tell me what page I should be checking again, or even better, both? :P

Thanks.

Each armor type has value for several different types of attacks. I don't have the book in front of me but I think it is called AV. Take for example chain mail may have a AV of 5 vs cutting, 3 vs stabbing, 4 vs impact, 0 vs cod, 0 vs heat, and 1 vs energy (these are not the real scores for chain mail by the way)

Then when you make an attack with a sword (cutting) against someone in chain mail their Av for the attack is 5. So when you make you attack roll, and your opponent makes their defense roll, you compare the two rolls (attack roll - subtract roll) then you look them up on the table to see if you hit. You need to look in the column for AV 5.

(I am sure lots of my notations are wrong, but the mechanism is right)

Oh right! That makes perfect sense! *Facepalm*

Of course!
For some reason I thought the table changed if you did multiple attacks in a turn or something, and thats why it became harder to hit.
But it says AT right there, I was just too caught up in my misunderstanding to see it. :D

Thank you very much for your help. I flipped back and forth through the book and it was driving me crazy :P
