Sister Hospitaller preview on Game Trade Magazine website

By Hidaowin, in Dark Heresy

I'm sorry if this info has been posted before but I just spotted this preview of the Sister Hospitaller career on the GTM website

www.gametrademagazine.com/downloads/SisterHospitaller.pdf

Some really nice healing and Fate Point boosting talents in there my Missionary in Rogue Trader would kill to have.

I don't see the need for a seperate career- standard Sisters of Battle from the Inquisitor's Handbook can be Hospitallers...

By RAW in IH, Hospitallers, Famulous, and Dialogus are extentions of generic Battle Sister, or Order Militant. Fluff has usually put Dialogous, Famulous, and Hospitaller as non-militant Orders. This seems to set the tone for the Sister from Rank 1 and not waiting for later differentiation.

If this really is just an Alt Rank 1 for a Sororitas Hospitaller, i think it's rather nifty. Ready the text a bit deeper i'm curious about these additional Hospitaller Ranks and how it plays with Existing Sororitas rank scheme, esp. when it references that Hospitallers are treated as Adepts. Second half last paragraph P.1.

First and foremost: this is the kind of preview I hoped FFG would provide us with (as they have done with DH products in the past).

@Adept Rank & Hospitaler starter set
This is for sure not an "Alternate Rank", but starting packed and "elite advance package" to build a Hospitaler Sister based on the Adept Career. So, finally there is made use of the "this is not a double-print, this is for futur release" claim made a long-long while ago.Which is met by me. One gets new ideas what one could do to make the sets fit once image of a pc.

Anyway, while I like what I see, I feel like Adept-B. It is a little confusing that there are now to ways to depict a "Hospitaler". But this does not need to be bad in the end. Anything that provides more option to be an character into one direction or the other is more then helpful to the pc creation process. At least in my books. happy.gif

The only REAL drawback: Existing Sister Hospitalers will not be able to make use of this, unless the GM rules it as "elite advance".

While we are on it: the concept of Common Lore test for the topic of Mutants and Heretics (p.78; Rule of the Sororitas) is hopefuly a misprinted in regard to Forbidden Lore tests regarding those subjects.

Just more bloating of alternate ranks. There are so many of these now, I think it really points out the critical flaws inherent to the career system.

True enough.

But it is at least a movement closer to a more open system, in that they are addressing the closed nature of character creation. With any luck, a future release (Acolyte's Guide or some such in a year or two) will have a more of a arch type system, where you can create your own progression of sorts. Or, better yet, a removal of the class/level system since the only thing that depends on the class/level system is when and where you can buy skills and talents, even stats are not guided by what level (rank) you are.

Currently I am working/reworking my Rank Jumping system, where rank is more of a reflection of where you are, what you have access to and so forth, and not a refelction of XPs spent (other then to buy rank). But real life says I have other work to do as well.

for what it's worth, I disagree - alternate ranks allow for far more flexibility when leveling up an inquisition cell. and it's not like alternate ranks are mandatory either, you can use them or not as you wish.

I think you miss my point. Yes, the alternate ranks allow for more flexibility in the career paths. That's what's wrong with the career paths... they don't allow for that kind of flexibility. The entire complex and increasingly weighty alternate rank system would be unnecessary if we weren't saddled with the rigid progressions of the career paths.

I said something similar in Januay 2008.
