RtL level 39 The cursed fountain

By Jonny WS, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Playing a session tonight, a situation came up.

This level has two fountains, one north and one south. In order to harm the leader you need to drink from the South Fountain.

My question is, can you harm this leader through indirect means? Such as knocking the leader into a pit with a knockback weapon. Or using bleed or burn to kill it?

What about non-damaging effects. Can you daze or web this leader?

The exact wording of the card is as follows:

Lord Camaron the Damed is a
Master Beastman with 8 extra
wounds and 1 extra armor. Camaron
is immune to Grapple, and can
only be wounded by heroes who
have at least one threat token due to
drinking from the southern fountain
on them.

Thoughts? Opinions?

1. Yes. Such indirect means are not wounds coming from heroes, they are wounds coming from tokens etc. Lord Camaron is only immune to being wounded by heroes - which means that wounds coming from heroes (directly) are ignored or reduced to 0.

2. Yes, provided the effect require damage, not wounds (which most do). Lord Camaron is not immune to damage from heroes, just wounds, which means that damage is dealt by the heroes but after conversion to wounds the wounds will be ignored/reduced to 0.

There isn't really any doubt for these, you simply have to read it and apply it exactly as it says, and read the tokens etc carefully.

I beg to differ regarding 1).

The leader isn´t "only immune to being wounded by certain heros" (as Corbon phrased it), but he can rather "only be wounded by certain heros". This excludes for me any other source of wounds.

Quite right, I misread completely, as indicated by the misphrasing.

So the only source of wounds possible for the leader is heroes with the threat tokens, which rules out non-heroe sources such as tokens (burn, bleed, pits etc).

Okay, that's what I was leaning to. Only "infected" heroes can harm this boss. However, does this mean that web and daze have no effect either or will those work against him?

Web and Daze are both applied when an attack successfully deals 1 damage (before armor.) Damage is not Wounds, therefore I would say such tokens could still be applied to the boss, even by attacks from heroes who have not yet drunk from the fountain. IF the effect of such tokens were to cause wounds, they would not have an effect on the boss, however, web and daze both have effects other than causing wounds. The boss's special ability offers no protection against effects other than wounds, therefore I would say Web and Daze apply normally.

Exactly.
