So, here's something that just struck me recently; for a ship to do any action, it's either done off of crew rating, or off of an NPC calling the shots onboard the ship. Do most of you create a NPC crew for major duties on the NPC ships you field? Or do you just leave it to crew rating?
What stats do you use for NPC ships in combat?
I just leave it to crew rating, and only stat out the boarding party (or use existing stats for armed ratings or guardsmen or whatever) and occasionally the captain. Cuts down on the prep and easier to run that way.
Generally I use the Pirate Captain stats provided in the main book for raiders and then just use crew rating. I also let the Crew make a number of actions equal to the tens digit of their rating. With three mediocre roles and one respectable one it gives them a bit more in that way of hitting power, but not much. For anything really challenging I have to stat out a few important crewman and build a ship from the ground up.
Seems like a good idea to me, yeah... I'll stick with crew rating, unless it's seriously important. Thanks!
