Random Selection of Marines

By LordZon, in Death Angel

How many of you randomly draw your teams by flipping the counter over? I think it adds to the replayablity and forces you to try new combinations.

I always play with a random selection of combat teams.

I always randomly choose my teams. Only once I've discarded the tokens and choose once again, cause I got exactly the same teams as previous game.

Random, but to ensure I see each team even number of times in solo (3 teams), I draw randomly three teams, use them and in the next game use the three teams that didn't see action in the previous game.

I do it randomly, but... there are simply some teams I prefer over the others. For example red, yellow, black, blue... wait, they are all great :) There is only one team I dislike and that is green. And sometimes I´m not in a mood for some team, so I change it. But most of the time I choose them randomly.

Hm, why is it that the green combat team is relatively unpopular? Is it because of their action cards, or because that Gideon has a lousy range of 0?

Because they really, really suck gran_risa.gif ?

To quote myself as to the Green team's speciality: "Dying so better teams don't lengua.gif ."

For defense, Lorenzo's Counterstrike > Green's Block. With CS, you actually whittle down the swarm, could even wipe it out fully ON DEFENSE. With Block, you can't use it again next turn and that killer swarm is still in formation. Their attack seems nice hitting on 2/3 instead of 1/2, but with Gideon's range 0, more often than not you're only getting to attack with one Marine instead of both. Their Move + Activate allows them to attack, but at the cost of a Support token.

Plus, Green team is just cursed to do horribly. Today, Gideon uses Block, has 1 GS on the left, behind him, 5 in front. Naturally, he rolls a 0 to defend against the 1GS attack and gets killed. Formation shifts and now the 5GS swarm rips apart Leon as well, eliminating the Red team from the game. Stupid Gideon.

The article you posted is right in some ways. Both marines have higher chance to kill (1-4 die), but it is compensated by the terrible reach of 0. But I still find Blue team´s Leader (Brother Sgt. Lorenzo, I think?) counterattack ability more useful. And that´s because he simply wiped out two giant swarms during defense. That actually happened several times. And when you block the swarms with Gideon´s shield, okay, he´s safe, for NOW! But the next round he´s dead meat.

I still find them the most useless team and playing them very hard.

I know. I liked Lorenzo from the get-go, but my mancrush on him has grown ever since, there is nothing quite like seeing him stand up to an instakill swarm (5+GS) and wipe out most them to survive.

Exactly! You'd either need the Grey team in the game for Power Field, which still doesn't solve the issue, the swarm still remains, pray to the Chaos Gods you don't draw Genestealer Lair as the final location or someone like Zael in range and looking in the right direction or something.

Wait, does Lorenzo only kill a Genestealer when he rolls a skull (while using Counter Attack)? Or whenever he succesfully defends himself?

So true. In Death Angel you don´t need to stop enemies from attacking, you need to kill them quickly, because there will be more coming - which means more problems. And that´s why in these situations is Lorenzo better than Gideon, in my opinion.

And to reply to the other question of brother mi-go hunter, during Counterattack Lorenzo kills enemy only while rolling a skull. Then the swarm attacks again until: Lorenzo defends himself succefully (rolling higher number on a die without skull on it) or until the swarm is killed one by one or until Lorenzo is killed (you roll a number without skull, lower or equal than the number of enemies).

Thank you for your answer, brother Tyrichter. gran_risa.gif
