about the generatorium

By Reju2, in Death Angel

that location, with the activate "roll a die : skull kills 4 genestealer, other result kills the marine" doesn't seem very blanced, or at least very interesting to me.

pure random, with 50% risk to have a casualty with no reward ? whatever the situation I'll always let my marine inactive (I mean giving support or shooting) rather then activate this thing. The marine will stay alive untill the stealers attack, and if he dies at this point, at least that's 1 dead buddy instead of 2 ( the one dying on the activate roll plus the one dying facing the stealers.

Did someone actually use that generatorium activation in a game (not for pure fun ) ?

It's a 50-50 shot of killing 4 GS anywhere in the formation, definately nothing to scoff at. Sure you can't reroll it, but if your formation is starting to overflow, especially if the key Marines (aka the special half of teams) are under serious threat, I would rather try to kill GS even at the risk of dying than just die and hope another Marine survives. Also, location like Generatorium is where you have the vanilla, fodder Marines in the teams. Or just use the Green team, they are useless anyway lengua.gif .

Well...

even under a serious threat (and precisely under a serious threat), I would rather chose the most reliable option then a pure gamble.

Imho, either support action , (with a result of 1 support token + effects like force field , or the green block, or counterattack + only 1 dead)

or attack action , (with purple, red, grey, yellow or even with green, that offer the opportunity to kill several GS, and only 1 dead),

offer a better chance of survival and success then fliping a coin...

Generatorium is definitely not my cup of tea. serio.gif

Could be your big hitters just used Attack this turn, then you got spawned and flanked by a bunch of angry GS (are there any other kind lengua.gif ). So all you have left are Support and Move + Activate, neither of which provides any real killing opportunities (apart from Lorenzo on Counterattack). Further, since you are flanked, can't even use Support tokens from Support action to reroll GS attacks. Power Field is nice, but only works against one swarm, so if you have 2-3 2GS swarms lurking, there are few kill options that come close to Generatorium. Yes, it's a coin toss, but I for one definately always look toward killing GS > having a Marine survive but the GS remain in formation. Marines are there to be used, whether you win with 1 left, 6 left or 12 left, it makes no difference to me.

I'd take that risk at times. Sometimes you don't have attack cards ready, or you are so over run. The marine will be asked to sacrifice at that point. Besides, if the Emperor is with him he will prevail.

OK. I can understand the way you think about that generatorium.

I would be ready to lose a marine, with the certainty of making 4 dead GS. but with the wording of this card, really, it's not worth it to me...

thank you for sharing your point of view !

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I only activate this ability if I'm in deep trouble. If you figure you're going to be overrun anyway, then why not take a risky gamble to try to bail yourself out? But otherwise I wouldn't use it. It just depends on how screwed your situation is at the time.

Yes, I used it in a critical situation. Completely surrounded by hordes of genestealers, i managed to kill some with this, then brother Zael killed another 4 with his flamethrower, and then Brother Leon killed 2. That round was just pure massacre and there was no other way out. I won, btw :) Some players consider it pure risk at high cost, but when you are in deep trouble and you would die anyway, just do it.
