Jacqueline (Pizza), Joe (Zebra), Mandy (Wings), Diana (Me) vs. Yig. Innsmouth with Lurker cards.
Since half the day was left, we decided to try again, but we still didn’t want to be up all night, so we specifically chose Yig, the fastest Ancient One around. Pizza wanted to keep playing Jacqueline; Wings hadn’t played her favorite Mandy in a while; I started yelling out names at Zebra, and he liked Joe; the other Investigator I drew (draw-2, pick-1) for the first game was Diana, so I just took her.
This game started much better: Clues were plentiful, Joe had Mythos Lore for two free dice a turn, and Diana had her Third Eye open for the whole game. Her lower Stamina was compensated for when she got Earl Sawyer when Jacqueline found Eric Colt (Social Connected Relationship).
Jacqueline got locked in a mausoleum, but avoided being forced to take a Necrophobia Madness. A dozen turns later, after her copious Sanity had been buffeted down to 1, a Colour drove her over the edge. Not having any money to spend at the Asylum, she chose to recover her maximum by drawing…Necrophobia. “AAAAA!!! IT’S ALL COMING BACK TO ME!!!”
The four hottest Arkham Locations popped first, and we Sealed three of them almost on the same turn. That’s when Yig got really mad. A monster surge put TWO Cultists on the fourth hot location (Unvisited Isle), and the four of us were not a stealthy bunch. Jacqueline finally took the plunge, and used Eric Colt’s Speed to use a combo of minimal dice, Clues, and a Mandy reroll to sneak past them to Leng. But by then, Innsmouth Mythos had filled the small town with monsters, and put the “Plans in Motion” Rumor in play. The Deep One Rising Track filled swiftly: using an Elder Sign and an Eltdown Shards only made Yig find an alternate way to vent his rage.
However, we were adequately equipped this time, and Diana was able to dodge Yig’s Curse by seeing it coming with her Third Eye. Mandy lost her Curse during the second round, and together the two of them got the lion’s share of the Serpent God’s doom tokens.
P.S. This group LOVES the new Investigator miniatures!!! Not only are they just nifty-looking, but since we play around a round table at (close to) the primary compass points, sometimes we end up looking at the side of a player marker. Miniatures can be seen from any angle!
