Chapters who don't have all thier extra organs working...

By BrotherHostower, in Deathwatch

So, here comes the question, why didn't the include this well established piece of fluff? We know Ultras & Dark Angels have pure geneseed, we know Space Wolves & Blood Angels' geneseed has 'extras' (canis helix & vampirism), but what about Imperial Fists (and by extension, their successors) and their lack of the ability to hibernate or spit acid? You could say they just haven't gotten to it yet, but Black Templars are there and no mention of this debilitation. Think they'll include it in the 'make your own chapters' book?

What are you talking about? It is on page 40.

Shoot, how'd I miss that lol.

On a related note.

As a RPG there is a question of game balance. Not being able to spit acid or hibernate isn't much of a issue in game for a DW character. But imagine a chapter without the organs needed for Unnatural Strength and/or Toughness. Unless they have some cool advantages to compensate they are going to be 2nd class characters within the Killteam.

So I think it's unlikely (not impossible) we will see playable Chapters with major deficencies in their geneseed.

heresy,

destroy that abonimation!!!

:) :) :)

It seems permissible for a Chapter to lose certain tertiary gene-seed organ functions (Betcher's Gland, Sus-an Membrane, Neuroglottis), but if primary gene-seed organs are lost, the Chapter becomes unviable and is probably headed for extinction. The first half-dozen or so organs are critical to developing a Space Marine, if any of those are lost, the Chapter is doomed.

According to canon the critical organs are Black Carapace and Progeniods.

Without Black Carapace SM power armour cannot function. Other losses might be compensated for via bionics or by the mutation of other organs. For instance a Chapter might have lost Unnatural Toughness, but gained Unnatural Agility and so have amazing Dodge, Movement speed and Stealth.
