Dust Tactics terrain with miniatures

By guest99239, in Dust Tactics

Started painting my German force, then had a bit of a brain wave with regards to the outside terrain - since one sides of the terrain squares has rubble on it I decided on a destroyed german base theme - the real base is undeneath all the rubble.

First a crashed russain drop pod as in issue one of the comic

Next some destroyed walls, featuring a crubling Nazi eagle

I love what you have done, you have captured the world of Dust 100%.

Fantastic scenery and use of, did you build these elements yourself or modified?? the rusian pod and the nazi eagle wall are fab, well done! aplauso.gif

They are completly scratch built. The bases are thick plasticard - someting i use a lot now - much more durable than card, and easier to use than thin wood or MDF. The main bits of rubble are blue insualtion foam/ building board - the girders are shop bought - i just snapped them and glued them. Next come rubble which is of various sizes from Gale force nine. then its painted grey with acrylic art pait and drybushed - last of all some gale force nine snow, which is much harder to use than static grass - since you have to bulid layers with watered down glue. lastly i painted the girders a rusty silver/ brown.

I only have 1 issue of the comic, and i totally missed dust wars - i really want to get hold of the graphic when it comes out in december so i can get some more ideas for terrain.

Fantastic! I'm planning on doing grassy terrain tiles to match my army and you've given me some ideas. great pics, speaking of which, how did you post them? for some reason i cannt load my jpegs and have to photobucket them or put em on boardgamegeek.com. anyway, keep plugging away, great stuff.

On each picture in photobucket are 4 boxes - one starts with "URL" - double click to all, then copy/ paste. in the posting window is a little postccard with a mountain on it press this and past the adress into it!

These are great. Looking forward to digging in to this game and all the side bar projects. Have you posted any pictures of your painted forces?

Awesome looking terrain Sir! I may well have to make some my self!

positively amazing work, inspiring to say the least.

The remnants of the fallen Eagle is pure aesthetic bliss.

As for snow, maybe consider trying the large container of Woodland Scenics snow. You mix it with watered down white glue, glob it on, finesse to your desired appearance as it dries, and it looks great. Even gets a bit of a dirty slightly yellowed appearance over time, but not in an artificial manner.

Regardless please keep posting. I am getting my entire AT-43 gaming club into DUST Tactics.

Cheers,

Damnit, if you guys keep posting beautiful stuff like this, I will NEVER get my research and thesis done!!! ARGH!!! Now I want to go out and build terrian and custom tiles! GRRRR.

wow! amazing stuff! Really diggin the eagle!

Very well done.

Bin having a prob with getting into my Dust Tactics game. Loved the comics. Just can't seem to find the notion to have a real go at the game. Don't know why as I love the minis and the whole feel of the thing.

That Russian drop pod scenic piece is inspired. Great idea and well excuted.

The Eagle reminds me of that other big war gaming company's scenic piece for their game but great none the less.

Looking at the comics again all I can see that might also work are the odd crashed plane. These would have to be seriously kit bashed to make a German jet plane, a bomber or an allied rocket armed fighter that looks a bit like a typhoon. But that would probably take up two or more board spaces.

Then there are standard looking WWII jeep and dodge trucks (1/48th scale?) and basic German SDKFZ half tracks.

Given these are well known vehicles from WWII I think that Drop pod is the perfect choice for enhancing your board.

If anything you have made me think again about having a good old read of the rules and try to get that first proper battle out of the way whilst looking at doing my own bits of terrain.

Inspiring mate.

Yes, very inspiring, fantastic themed scenery.
