Dark charm & encouter => upgrade dice.

By mimo69, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi,

when a hero is affected by Dark charm can i add/upgrade dice with my treat ? like i would do it with my monster?

Thanks for your time.

no i do not believe so, but you can use the rolled surges to power the hero's abilities.

and the only time im aware of that you can upgrade dice with threat is while in a encounter, not a dungeon.

/oops

you did mean encounter not dungeon, i over looked the subject header since it was not stated in the body's question. Im not sure of the answer then:( i thought it was going to be a easy question for me to answer, lol.

Hi,

Thanks for your response t:

since a Hero receive the command bonus from a monster (Master beastman...) and not from a hero with Blessing, i would assume than the OL can upgrade/ add dice in the encounter while the hero is charmed :)

Hehe, you may not receive a easy question from me, since i know +- well the game :)

/chuckle, the same people always seem to answer all the questions so i feel like i should help out with some of the easy ones to give them a break. it has not worked out that way yet though:p

The answer is no.

Dice may be added by threat in encounters to monsters . Blessing/Command work on 'friendliness', not monster/hero-ness. Just because command works for a charmed hero, doesn't mean that everything else that works for monsters does. Aim, for example, works because it doesn't specify that the attack is from a monster.

you could argue, that a charmed hero is actually a monster for the duration of the charm.

No, you can't - well, no more than you can argue that the moon is made of green cheese (which is to say you can, you'd just have no legitimate fact, rule or foundation for such an argument).

Nowhere does it say the hero ceases to be a hero, or becomes a monster. Heroes and monsters are quite well defined things.

Just because friendliness changes, and control changes, does not make type change, unless it says that type changes. You just have friends and control changing.

A->B does not mean that C->D (unless A=C and B=D).

I agree with Corbon and if you search long enough in the forum (might be in the old ones, can't remember it was a long time ago...), you might find an answer from Kevin Wilson stating that dark charm does NOT grant any of the monsters in play abilities or other OL abilities (power, events) to the "charmed" heroes, i.e. it doesn't get the command bonus from the beastman.

As Corbon states though, you can use the rolled surges to activate any of the hero's abilities/item bonus.

That's how I would play it anyways, you're free to make the interpretation you want with your group and play it as such!

Cheers!

i dont agreed with the last point Iam.

Command affect friendly figures, a dark charmed hero dont became a monster of course, but for a brief moment, he change hes side, becoming friendly with the OL 's monsters.

Time's ago i've made this same question and the answer was"yes they benefit from command"

There is no doubt that they benefit from a nearby Beastman's Command. That's clearly state in the FAQ.
