Prefabricated Hab-Block.

By Captain Harlock, in Rogue Trader

Im guessing budding Rogue Traders out there have already colonised many worlds in the Koronus expanse. Futher to a thread a did a couple of months ago in the vein of 'how many colonists would it take to colonise a planet' one of my players asked about hab blocks, the Imperiums prefabricated STC design which is referenced in the fluff.

Here comes the gheek question of the month....

Does anybody know what these are actually like?As one of the prerequisites for colonising a planet (• Colony hab-installations p.279 Core rule book) it would be nice to know exactly what they are. I seem to remember in various novels about them being square grey and brutal, and i dont think that they are the same as the jovian pattern Modula Hab Base (Into the Storm p.136), as these seem like military/research outposts rather than civilian blocks.

One Idea is that they are a bit like the hab blocks from Judge Dredd/2000AD, but I think that these are a bit too Big and are closer to what you would find in a Hive, and unlikely to fit in the hold of a Starship.

Does anyone have images/Fluff/Stats on these things?

I don't have the stats, but fluff-wise the Imperium drops entire Cathedrals from orbit, I don't think transporting hab-blocks would be a problem. As for the description of hab blocks, I don't think there have ever been definitive descriptions of them, I think it's just a generic term for a habitation unit into which the proles are packed like sardines. Certainly Eisenhorn and Ravenor novels describe them in generic high-rise tenements terms. However, if you don't mind using fan-made material for inspiration, check this page out: http://www.philipsibbering.com/WH40KRP/40K_4_Ecopolis.shtml This guy definitely has some interesting takes and interpretations of 40k universe.
