The Witches Song?

By cronevald, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Does anybody know, why WFRG products aren't avaible through the big online stores (e.g. amazon, barnes & nobles) immediately after the release date but rather some time later? Signs of Faith for example is listet for November 14th. The Guides and Vaults are listet for January 11th. But SoF is out now for some weeks, and the Guides and Vaults are due in early December. The Edge of Night I ordered online came six weeks after it was availably in the game shops.

Does anybody know, why that is?

Thank you.

It's possible that they are supporting local retailers by doing so.

Online sources usually sell these products for a sizable discount. With the cost of some of them (the core especially), if they released online at the same time as brick and mortar stores, then no one would buy them from the stores.

Thanks, that sounds reasonable and fair.

Although I thought that also the local shops sell those products with some discount, don't they?

Anyway I was just wondering. Since I'm from Germany, I wanted to figure out the "cheapest" and fastest way to get hold of new products (usually in German shops you have to pay the original price without a discount or even more, like the Signs of Faith (50$) costs something around 40 to 45 Euro, so with the exchange rate that would be around 55 to 62 $. (It has of course something to do with shipment and customs ...))

So for me, it's either cheap and late or expensive and on time.

Korkandel,

Since you live in Germany check out www.bookdepository.co.uk and maelstrom.co.uk

The have zero shipping costs for Europe [i think it's 0 shipping costs wordlwide too] and their prices are very competitive, almost the same as Amazon's

I got mine from Games Lore. (I'm in the UK)

I can recommend both of these shops. I usuallly get stuff I order from Maelstrom games before my local store has them (in Sweden) and they are a lot cheaper.

I don't know how You but I realy can't wait for the Guide&Vaults products. Acording to my FLGS they should be avaliable in the end of november but there is no comcrete date. So I was looking on the net and I found that one store in Germany say that those will be avaliable on 30th November. That could be true, so I have my fingers crossed for that. In the products description page they have a status of avaliable sonn. What do You think?

Maybe Jay Little could give us a anwser about the Guides&Vaults and when will they be avaliable? I just hope that very soon. I got my pre-ordered in september/october and now I'm just waiting for there ariaval.

Oh, and in the upcoming section I got a feeling there's a big mess. I don't know why, maybe it's becouse of the end of this year or something.

Thanks a lot, plutonick! The bookdeposit really have great prices. Although the Guides/Vaults are not yet listed with prices and there is no way to find out, when they will be available from this shop. At Maelstrom there available for preorder. Let's wait and see.

Although I'm looking forward to the Guides and Vaults, I find it unfortunate, that we have to wait on four products (the GM and Player Guide/Vaults), that don't have new content instead of waiting for four new adventures, campaigns and sourcebooks :). Sure I want to have the new rulebooks, but what I'm reaaly crazy about ist new stuff like Witch's Song (Hello there, topic!), Omens of War and Black Fire Pass. And I hope that in the future there won't be any Guides and Vaults. Only the real good stuff.

Thnks for your help, all of you.

I agre with You. It's stange that we have to wait so long for those and there will be no new material in. And, just like You said, I'm also hoping that there will be no more Guides and Vaults. Only the Creature Guide and Vault will bring new goods in the game. The rest is just a reprint. That what really interest me are those completely new products that will bring all new material to the game like: The Witch's Song (in should be in January 2011 avaliable), Omens Of War & Black Fire Pass (acording to some shops - those will be avaliable in March/April 2011).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all Guides&Vaults will hit the stores or be shipping this week.

I don't know what the official word is, but I suspect we'll see one more set of guides and vaults after the ruinous powers cycle is complete (as no doubt it will contain the new wounds and perm wounds mechanic from the Omens set and whatever nastyness we hit with the slaanesh set).

Its sort of an 'update' for the game, and a re-organization of all the 'stuff'. And honestly, I'll pick up these guides, and probably those too. I imagine they can't keep doing it though, as the volume of new information will eventually make those books dictionary sized.

I will say it like that - if there will be next year some new Guides & Vaults that that would mean that FFG don't cares about the fans and disrespects them. Becouse true fan are buying the game - every expansion and then FFG publishes Guides and Vaults. With those G&V products FFG shows fans that there is no need to buy normal expansions becouse we can buy a cheaper version and have the same things.

I hope that Jay Little will keep his word and like He said at GenCon and the Small But Vicious Seminar THERE WILL BE NO MORE GUIDES & VAULTS! Only those are coming becouse this is and optional version of the core set. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be no more G&V products.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a later set of Guides and Vaults. My guess is that if these do happen, they won't be fully cumulative; you might get updated percentile-dice tables for rolling careers, talents, actions, etc., but they'll probably only include descriptions for the new entries, just as with any splatbook for any other RPG.

I've bought all the sets so far and don't feel at all disrespected by the release of the Guides and Vaults; they're optional, after all, and there's no need for the Player's and GM's ones if you have the existing sets. I'll probably buy the Player's and GM's Guides anyway, because I like the idea of having a reference for the cards; less certain about the Vaults.

Trystero - I understand You. I got a collectors soul so I will buy those G&V products. But still I think that FFG should keep there word that those are the only G&V products and there will be no more of them.

Oh and if You lisened careful what Jay said at the seminar - all products will still be comming in normal version so all in one box. And that makes me happy happy.gif, becouse I love this format. I love to buy it all in one box where I have a book, cards and all I need. And like JL said the G&V products are not changing this format so The Witche's Song, Omens Of War and The Black Fire Pass will be in boxes just like The Gathering Storm or Signs of Faith. gran_risa.gif

I just hope that this week we will hear some more from Jay about our favourite WFRP game. gui%C3%B1o.gif

How long does it take for a order from Maelstrom to reach Sweden?

you mean 2E? LOL, just kidding, Calm down.

But you see, FFG is probably releaseing the different version of the game because not enough "true" fans are buying them. They are hoping the vaults bring in other fans and that they will branch from the vaults to the original format.

But if that doesnt work, you better be ready for more vaults, or even a 4E.

You see, it doesnt matter how good the system is. Its how well it sells, continues to sell and the outlook for more sales. And as a company, built to make a profit, FFG (like any sensible company) will re-market their property as needed to make a profit from it.

Its why we got 3E in the first place.

About a week I'd say. I've been using Maelstrom for a while now and have never had any problems.
