Succes Without Commitment

By player1971, in Call of Cthulhu Deck Construction

I am currently working on a Hastur/Miskatonic deck. It focuses mainly on Mad Genius and getting him to go insane and then restore granting me successes without ever commiting to any stories. I would appreciate any help with tweeking this deck. It works pretty good right now (about 75% wins) but I have been playing mainly against Shub ghoul/mi-go/dark young rush decks.

Let me know what advice you can offer.

Mad Genius (key to the deck) x3

Dr. Carson (restore ability) x2

Dr. Carson's Treatment (for restore) x3

Unearthing the Ancients (for card drawing) x3

Academic Obfuscation (to slow down the opponent) x3

Misinformation (again to slow down) x3

Erin Moirai (for misinformations ability) x3

Nightmares! (for driving insane) x3

Victoria Glasser (for driving insane) x1

Hastur (for insanity) x2 but I may take this out for more Victorias

Brain Transplant (insanity and slow down) x2

Wraith (use with Drunken Hallucinations) x3

Nighstalker (for Drunken Hallucinations) x2

Carcossa (to slow down) x2

Bringer of Fire (to slow down) x3

Atlach-Nach (again slow down) x2

Arkham Asylum (for restore) x2

The Greatest Fear ... (for extra successes) x3

Drunken Hallucinations (drive insane) x2

Terrors in the Dark (slows them down big time) x3

So far I have been able to either get all the successes I need way before my opponent or I stall them out long enough for them to mill themselves out of cards. Either way win for me.

I had exactly the same idea, but totally focused on a different strategy :

This deck had some amazing victories I did'nt ever expect, as I was able to rush (with investigation) during my first turn on two stories and then win them without commiting.

here's my deck list, may it will propose you alternative ways.

2 x Dr CARSON
3 x Mad Genius
2 x Student Archeologist
3 x Arcane Translation
3 x Changing the Names
2 x Dr CARSON Treatment
16 miska (7 characters)
3 x Crazed Arsonist
3 x Dangerous Inmate
3 x Performance Artiste
3 x Victoria
2 x victoria's protegee
3 x Power Drain
2 x Writhing Wall
3 x Blind Submission 22 hastur (14 characters)

3 x Dabbler in the Unknown
3 x Descendant of Eibon
2 x Julia neutre
2 x Eldritch Nexus
3 x Greatest Fear

3 x Arkham Asylum
2 x Enchanted Woods 18 neutrals ( 8 characters)

I let my opponent score where he wants and use "change the name" to avoid him getting the stories.

Then Dabbler gives me the first point, plus allow me to commit early.

I tend to drive my character insane to gain advantage, success or discard the hand and do it multiple times so I don't play a lot of character after turn 3.

This deck is highly dependant of the Descendant, as I earn token fast, but don't have strong characters once my opponent is settled.

OMG yes I can see all the possibilities! Thank you for a different perspective on the same concept. I will deffinetly try some tweeks and see what the out come is. I really want to see how all of this would work against another Hastur deck.
