I am just getting into CoC and kinda went apeshat crazy buying some stuff.

I picked up the following:

1 Arkham starter box

1 Unspeakable Tales box

1 Forbidden relics box

1 Eldtritch Starter box Premium I think?

1 Mask of Nylar. box

1 Forgotten Cities box

1 Eldritch booster box

I almost have all the Summons of the Deep, all of the Dreamlands, and whats out for the Yuggoth contract.

Now that i have paid for all that stuff, I realize that the older CCG cards backed different than the new stuff isnt it?

did i just waste a boatload of money or what? I really dove into the Game of Thrones game 2 years ago and the LCG matched the CCG so I just assumed CoC would do the same.

Having said that.

I am having a ton of trouble find the I-IV original asylum packs. I found Dunwich Denizens and have seen the other 3 on ebay for ridiculous prices. I really only want one of each of any asylum pack. We would like to just have maybe 1 of each of the 'rare' power cards and maybe a few more of the common and uncommon power level stuff.

Have they been reprinted or will they be? Or are their cards getting reprinted here and there in the later asylum packs?

My goal is to mainly play casually. I just would like to have 'all' the stuff for completeness sake.

so after much rambling, are the original 4 asylum packs worth tracking down? are the CCG cards worth playing with or has the game changed enough they are incompatible?

I enjoy the background of the setting even more than its awesome mechanics.

Dude, you are all set. Don't worry about the mixed borders. You will need to sleeve though. You just bought up some of the best stuff. Truly, it is out of date. But so what. White border tournaments, and even white border corrections and fixes aren't compelling enough for you to worry about at this time. Collect the old game. Collect the new game casually. Reprints are important for LCG play. AP are just 20 more fun cards. Black border is obsolete if you think mythos or poker or chess is obsolete.

aince you are looking for a complete collection, i wuold like to add:

- there are 2 starter boxes for the first series Arkham Edition. or did you buy a complete display (2x5 starters?)

- there is also a Arkam Edition Premium Starter containing some cards that cant be found somewhere else.

- and there are promos

nowadays its really difficult to get those first 4 Chapter Packs. what is a ridiculous price at ebay? there are 3 of 4 available at eaglecard.org for 20 - alas - euro (the good thing: you will get some promos for free).

And of course, the deckbuilder. Ignore it at your peril.

I only picked up one whole box of the normal starters. I didnt see the premium starters anywhere.
