Stacking character abilities/effects?

By Ser Jon Allyrion, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi there!

I have a question regarding character abilities. For example the

Starfall Bannerman :

"If it is not Winter, House Dayne characters get +1 STR."

If I have the character a second time in play, does that mean each Dayne character now gets +2 ?

Also if that was the case, if I play against another Martell deck with the same character, both players have it in play does it stack for both our characters, since the card doesn't specify who controls the House Dayne characters?

Which would also mean that my Dayne characters would benefit, if my oponent would play that card?

Same problem with Starfall?

"House Dayne characters get +1 STR for each gold token on them."

Does ist stack? Does it stack under the control of two different players? Does one Starfall work for both players? :)

Thank you for your help!

They stack. If its a global effect, like Hoster Tully, control doesn't matter. If its something like "Stalwart characters you control get +1 Str" then yes, control would matter.

I'm not sure "stack" is the appropriate term.

As outlined in the rules, when you have multiple effects that modify a characteristic, you add all of the applicable effects together and apply the result to the character. So yes, each "House Dayne" card counts as an individual effect and is applied to the various characters. All the modifiers are combined, then applied to the character. So in that sense, yes, they "stack," but in typical card game terminology, where "stack" usually refers to a chain of effects that are applied in a particular order, this isn't a "stack." It is multiple applicable modifiers applied simultaneously.

And yes, since the cards do not refer to "House Dayne characters you control," they apply to any House Dayne character, even your opponent's.

Sorry if I used the wrong term. :)

And thanks a lot for your help! :)
