Ultramarines - production review

By j-tech2, in Deathwatch

The visual quality doesn't offend my eyes - as it does some...

In my opinion, it's quality will be a function of it's storytelling. Whether this is a good film or not? The jury is still out on this (most important) issue. I see no particular linkage between this and expensive visuals. There are plenty of examples of expensive visuals and s^&t movie.

If this movie rocks, then word-of-mouth within the WH40K community will ensure its success. The reverse will be true. I imagine this dvd will be sold at GW stores too - people will buy it regardless.

My money says it flops. I hate to say it, but Damnatus was better then this...

I just did a quick search, and found the youtube trailer for this movie. Its a shame my german isnt up to being able to fully enjoy it, but it certainly looked interesting.

So I for one, as you may have noticed, am gladly getting on my soap box, donning my sandwichboard and instead of shouting 'The End is nigh!' I'll be shouting 'The Beginning is Nigh!'. This could be the first (but true, somewhat crude) step to lots of 40K movies. And no matter the quality of Ultramarines, it will be the measuring point that will decide if we will see more in the near future or not.

It's a shame, though. As a complete opposite to the production schedule of the RPGs, I really wish they had started with something more Dark Heresy flavoured. Of course, that might not have the mass interest for one produced around Space MArnies, though.

Kage

(Ressurect!) I see your point kage but it is usually the iconic pieces of a product that will sell best, only later will the audience be interested in the more intricate details of the product. I am sure most people in this hobby went from Astartes>Xeno>Humans, maybe not in collecting but in "experiencing" with their senses (i know i did, and alot of my friends during the 2nd ed era). I went on portent to find out more about details such as Inquisition from reading "Codex Ultramarines".

Its nice to have a movie out for a game ive played for 20+ years

Im not all that spoiled to see it come out for what it is and written by one of the top icons of games workshop

i would be very upset to have to wait 5+ years for a peice of candy to render . we are what? 6 movies into the Star wars series and how many years?

Ill have it on my plate now thanks. It will be a good seed for the genre . and stimulate interest . and retain those of the faith that are not Spoiled.
