Got Core, Arkham and Dreamlands... What Next?

By Timbo74, in CoC General Discussion

My Xmas present arrived today, the CoC core set, Arkham Asylum and the six Dreamland Asylum packs. So where to now? Is it worth even trying to track down any of the Summons of the Deep sets or can I just focus on the Yuggoth Contract? I guess what I'm really asking is "am I missing out on anything by skipping the Summons series"?

Eight weeks until I can play the real thing, until then LackeyCCG is giving me my Cthulhu fix.

It cannot hurt to get the Yuggoth Contract set. Regarding the old APs, I'd recommend to wait until they're reprinted with three copies of each card.

I'd say agency did best with summons - military bike, endless interrogation, interrogation center, agency grounds keeper. Infernal Obsession was big for Hastur. Emerging Deep One is no slouch.

Kinda sucks in mono-faction decks though sad.gif . Need fodder to throw at them.

A long list of classic cthulhu faction cards are just brutal to yourself, and yet remain some of the coolest cards in the game - Spawn of Cthulhu, Deep One Rising, Ravager from the Deep, Lurking Star Spawn, Chakota, Cthuloid Spawn, Terror of the Tides, some target your opponent played correctly.

I like the original question, what next? We've got a protagonist, a high society debutante at the wrong party. We've got a story likely built into the new faction. We have a new author. He's got cred. Let's see if he can work his game literature magic into the serial format as Nate did. After the expansion and this arc, we'll be ready for someplace exotic. Twelve more per faction will be nice. An infusion of game-wide synergy beyond that would be great.

We are told to expect synergy. First mentioned was larger subtypes, investigator and criminal, and that factions will get back to their roots, like syndicate skill reduction. Additionally, Government, Student, Disaster, Madness, and Artifacts are expected same treatment. Sounds good.

My hope is for a speedy release of the new expansion.

This is kind of the direction I'm leaning at the moment as well. Of course, all future products will feature the 3x-for-each format, so if the new Order of the Silver Twilight faction interests you, be sure to pick up that expansion when it comes out.
