thief too powerful?

By ameritrasher, in Talisman

So check this out...

Thief steals an axe at the blacksmith early in the game. He uses it to build a raft and get into the middle region. The thief travels to the warlock and gets quests like deliver gold or objects which are 3 out of the 6 possible quests. He then steals the required gold or objects from players to get a talisman. He continues this process and claims all the talismans so none of the other players can get them. If a player happens to get a talisman from the deck or a card then the thief just pounces on him and steals the talisman back.

No talisman means no way to win the game and the thief can just ****** this victory card right from under your very nose. Is the thief broken or what?

This would require luck for the theirf, cause he would have to roll exactly to land on the person getting mugged. not to mention that the their is waek as hell with no combat abilities, and will go down in a fight no prob, usually. like i said, he was just really lucky in your game.

last game we played, I had a doubt about the thief's ability:

can he steal an object from another character just landing on another character's space (for example: he encounters the druid in the chapel, can the thief steal an object from the druid and then visit the chapel?), or he must have a combat with the character to steal the object? in this second case he steal the object before or after the combat?

thanx for help!

Look at the Talisman Encounter Sequence at the back of the rules.

In your example, the Thief can EITHER attack the Druid OR steal from the Druid OR visit the Chapel.

Why thief steal an axe, when he may steal a raft? ;)

Because the axe lets you build a raft AND it gives you a bonus when you fight. Yes the thief can just steal a raft but then it is a one time use only where the axe is reusable.

Just as a note, this is also true with the Sorceress. She can Attack, Beguile, take follower, or vist the space. Just 1 of the 4

one question about the thief's ability to steal objects from other characters...

can the Thief use his ability to STEAL even if he's on the Crown of Command with another character

or is he forced to combat?

On the Crown of Command, Characters encounter each other and can't do anyting else in their Turn (no movement, no Command Spell). You apply standard rules for encounters, so either attack or use a Special Ability against the other Character.

You can choose to steal or fight the character in your turn. ( as long as you may enounter each other)

Normal movement type cards/ land on abilities can be used there.

But with Danse Macabre for example, you must attack the character, then you can not use a ability( except psychic combat)

PS: i think that it's very important that these new rules for the Crown of Command must be included in Faq 1.1
