Basic blessing and basic casting action cards.

By larryhoteep, in WFRP Rules Questions

When making Priest or a Wizard, does the basic spells and blessing come for free? Do they need to buy them as other action cards?

Thanks friends

Hi,

As far as I remember, yes they get the actions for free but only if this is there starting career. If you switch later to a priest or wizard you have to buy them one by one.

Hm, never thought about how to handle someone going into a wizard or priest career as their second career. That's a large invesment just to get the basic tools other wizard/priest characters start out with.

As for starting careers, I haven't had to make any priests yet, so not sure about the rules there, but for wizards:

They start with the advanced skills Spellcraft and Channelig as "Aquired", and all the spells labeled "Basic".

Priests do not start with Invocation and Piety acquired. They do have however the basic Blessings for free (i would tell my player to acquire both Piety and Invocation if he didn't)

If you read the fluff and becoming an Initiate or Apprentice, from the basic books in the Core set, you'll read that it can take years to become one. They start as Servants who do menial tasks for the Church/College. Then, if they did well and show promises, they are offered an Initiate / Apprentice spot. Not all servants make it that far and can stay as is for a lifetime. That is how i remember it anyway. Those Career Paths are specific (getting out is also mentionned in the books and have restrictions or consequences)
