Naggaroth Spearmen

Will someone kindly explain this card to me?

Battlefield . Action . Spend X resources to have this unit deal +X damage in combat until the end of the turn. X is the number of development cards in this zone.

example: My brother placed 1 development into the battlefield. Than spent 12 resources and dealt 12 damage during combat. Is this legal? It sounds sketchy. He compared this card to the bolt thrower before it got nerfed.

I thought the card meant to spend resources equal to the number of developments in the BF and do that much damage during combat. Help much appreciated! game on.

As the unit gain +X damage and there is no stated trigger to do it, you can do it as many time as you want. What your brother is doing is legal.

Spearmen only have 2HP, so durability is a big issue.

I see. This unit may definately find it's way into one of my decks. Seems like an easy way to spam some damage. Thanks for the clear and quick reply. Game on.........

Anyone else using this card?

So this unit is a living (pre-errata) Repeater Bolt Thrower??? Hmmm....

Yeah, I used to use this unit to great effect sometimes.

I don't think this card will get nerf'd. Being it's a unit and easily destroyed. Dam made a good point regarding that. Now if Spearmen were 5hp or something crazy, ... than..... Houston.., we may have a problem.

game on brothers.

You can also corrupt them, move them to another zone, nerfing their ability fully. Or in a DElf vs DElf matchup, either blank them or take control of them, hit your opponent with their own weapons. Or just Vile Sorceress + We Need Your Blood.

Only positives for the Spearmen are that their ability isn't limited to a number of uses (though resource cost essentially does that) and that the ability adds to the damage they do in combat, doesn't increase their Power, which would leave them vulnerable to Blood for the Blood God for example.
