So I've been looking at it for a while now, and have decided I'm finally ready to drop the dough on Arkham Horror. I've heard the rules take a while to get used to, and was wondering what the best way to go about getting started was. I'd seen a few people who recommended playing through at least once alone to get a good feel for it. Is this the way to go, or just jumping in with a few friends after reading the rules beforehand?
New to AH
Greetings and good to see you! AH is an awesome game that will give you hours of fun times, especially when you play with others. I would play through it alone first, having someone who knows the game beforehand even in a basic sense is very helpful.
I'm sorry I'm not linking it but the 11 part tutorial on youtube is excellent. Just go there and type in Arakham Horror tutorial.

The Old Man is right. You and your party should watch that series of videos. I played a game with a friend after he watched the videos and he was ableto help me answer questions the rest of the group asked.
Thanks! I'll check out the videos then.
Just played my first game, and we won! (It was against Yig though, so...not too big a challenge) Well worth the 60 bucks, and I'm excited to play more! Thanks for the tips!
Try playing against Yog-Sothoth or Chtulhu-they're the toughest AOs in the base game.
Yeah they look pretty beastly. To be fair, Yig got drawn randomly, but it was probably for the best, as 2 of our 4 players were learning as we went, and I didn't want them to get discouraged after a cornholing from Cthulhu.
