AT Gun Damage Question

By player338749, in Tide of Iron

Can anyone answer whether or not anti-tank guns (Pak 36, 57mm and the 6-pounder) can also be lightly damaged as opposed to being outright destroyed should the gun receive "heavy" damage? Also, if anti-tank guns can be lightly damaged, what is the effect of light damage: Does it ONLY lose 1 factor of armor protection like armored vehicles? and/or Would it possibly also be reduced to half firepower? or Is there NO effect?

As the rules are now, it would only lose one point of armour. I see no real reason why, maybe the gun shield is blown half away. gran_risa.gif

Yes, that's true as far as what the rules say for Armored vehicles (as far as the rules go in DAY OF THE FOX, it only goes so far to say that such equipment is destroyed upon receiving heavy damage). At the same time, the effect of light damage on an exposed AT gun piece should conceivably be much, much more than it would be compared to that of an enclosed armored vehicle. Anyway, I certainly hope that Fantasy Flight Games will address this issue directly and answer it at some point in the future.

It also receives a -1 movement penalty, so it cannot move at all.

Nah. I think its fine. Why make up many fancy special rules for things thats not important. If you attack an AT gun with something decent, it will get destroyed (heavy damaged) in one or two shots.

Accordingly, would you fully agree that light damage of 1 or 2 hits to an otherwise undamaged AT gun piece will result in -1 movement and -1 armor protection (the same as for armored vehicles) and NOT affect the firepower of the AT gun piece in any way? If you don't agree, then how would an AT gun piece be affected differently when it becomes lightly damaged? (Thanks.)

I think an lightly damage AT gun with only -1 in armor and -1 in movement is fine. Becuase its not like destroying an AT gun is very difficult in the first place. Heck, you can kill it simply by firing at it two times with just about any anti-tank weapon at normal range. AT guns are fine in the desert operation, where they have higher range than the tanks which has low firepower. But if the enemy has tigers and panzers, well, then the your AT gun will not last very long...

There are other things which in my opinion could use some tweaks instead.

I agree with Grand Stone. I think the light damage for AT guns is supposed to be on a different level than it is for AFVs. Hence it is much easier to damage it. Maybe it blows off the wheels so it cant be moved, or it is just simply is closer to being destroyed than it was before but not damaged so bad that it is less effective. Remember it is much less complex of a machine than a tank. So heavy damage might just mean there is a hole in the barrel or a loading mechanic is messed up on the gun that renders it useless; so it is destroyed.
