Unto the Void: An Introductory Endeavour for Rogue Trader

By Sokahrthumaniel, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

Hello all

This is my first time posting on these forums, but I like the look of the content I have seen so far.

I am a long-time 40k player and relatively veteran Gm of Dark Heresy games, seguing into A Rogue Trader 'series' with Deathwatch interludes (peripherally linked either way: no direct discourse between Trader And Watch).

This series is constructed around 12 'episodes' (game sessions), 8 of which are dedicated to running Endeavour-centric Rogue Trader games following the path of a House fallen from glory, and a Deathwatch kill-team stationed on the other side of the galaxy. Linking these two together in a blatant way is not in my interests as a Gm as I feel that it would degrade the awesome aspect of Astartes in the eyes of the Rogue Trader characters, and also cause a massive disparity in power level. Therefore these episodes make subtle reference to main plot events, or provide 'imports' or other consequences of action in Jericho reach that reach the ears, and occasionally the pockets of the Trader characters back in Koronus.

To this end i have written a very basic draft of a first episode, focussing on educating relatively inexperienced players in the vagaries of space travel in the 41st millennium, and what it is to be a Rogue Trader (or one of his closest advisers). The important thing to bear in my, in my opinion, is that in this series; Naval/Space-faring life is more along the lines of a darker, steam-punk laced 'Master and Commander' atmosphere than Star Trek or other Space Opera style setting.

As this Episode Overview would quickly turn into a wall of text with poor formatting, I have provided a public googledocs link for all who are interested; Linkety Link

keep hem comin mate!

Thank you!

Sorry for not mentioning it in the first post, but any critique would be welcome! i have some time to fire up the series as an old friend is back from the north, so I am kicking off a 'reunion' Deathwatch game (to be played when theo ld crowd down here are all together as a warrior epic), but the Rogue Trader game will be running at my local club weekly within about a fortnight.

Thanks again to the poster above for their kind words, and remember: critique is welcome!

I love the fact that it proposes a full length endeavor in a simple fashion. You also bring the Rt system slowly to your players.

I have a bit the same way but I have used the premade I think your approach is better since the free pre made are pretty crappy to tie in with the full rules. They are based on foot fights moslty.

So I WILL use your endeavor!

:)

That's cool. I'm really interested in how you're going to go on from there!

Hi there,

do you have already "fleshed out" the warp travel event? If so, mind sharing? happy.gif
