Storage/expansion Questions

By Ninian, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello all, I'm new here, just bought the game and already love it. I saw online a few people had made cases for their sets and I wanted to make one myself. Now, I doubt I'll ever get a massive game going using all the expansions. My question is, are there parts of the expansion I can include in the base set without worry that it will dilute it with unnecessary cards? If so, what can be combined? I imagine adding in the investigator sheets would be fine as well as allege chits (it easy to just not use certain chits). My plan is to create a case that I can start playing right out of the box with smaller cases for each expansion that I can just pop open and shuffle in why I need to for each game. Any help is greatly appreciated!

On a side not, this forum isn't very iPhone friendly, is it?

Everyone has their own method for combining, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of diverse responses.

As for myself, in a "base game" situation, I always use all the Spells, Common and Unique Items, Allies, and Skills from every expansion. My Gate deck includes every expansion except Dunwich and Kingsport, since they have Other Worlds on them that aren't always used. The Mythos deck is just the base game and I only add in the expansion that I'm playing at the time. I might add in Black Goat and/or Lurker to the base set, since they are generic and not theme/mechanic specific, but we'll see.

I only use encounters and Mythos cards from an expansion that I'm using, but I don't remove them from the deck, I just keep drawing until I get one that's "in play." I use all the investigator cards except I only use allies if I have a chance of gaining them through an encounter, so only if their expansion is in play.

I always use the Injury and Madness cards, personal stories, epic battle cards, relationship cards, new gates, etc. I also always have all the monsters in the cup.

Same here. All the new investigator cards(spells, items, skills, allies) can be safely shuffled into their respective decks; same with gate encounters and new Arkham encounter cards. Mythos cards that denote locations or gameplay mechanics on expansion boards I'm not currently using are completely ignored and a replacement card is drawn. As for the new monsters, once they're added, there's no way(or actual need) of separating them at all from the monster cup according to expansions, since monster tokens are not marked in any way. Although some of newer flying monsters' tokens are color-coded slightly differently-they're of a deep blue color as opposed to the light-blue/cyan of the flyers in the base game. But I'd be damned if I knew which expansion each of the new critters came from-I bought Kingsport together with Innsmouth, so I added evertything right in.

The Arkham Horror Wiki lists monsters by expansion. I actually printed out a list for each expansion and put it in the box so I will always know. I do mix in all monsters except Innsmouth. I keep those separate and like to play with only base game and Innsmouth monsters when playing that expansion.

Phones aren't really very web friendly gui%C3%B1o.gif

As far as separating monster chits, I took a sharpie to the bottom edge with a different color for each expansion. That way I can throw them all together, but if I don't want to play with a certain expansion I can put them back in the lid and draw again. I also like to stand the monsters up on plastic stands, (since I will never need all 48 investigators at the same time!)

Is anybody else irritated that the small boxes are just a couple mm too narrow to fit the investigator and GOO sheets? Or is it just the Lurker box that's too skinny?
