Possible Blizzard / FFG MMO Collaboration ???

By Vaxsythrakul, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I had a dream last night about Blizzard's new unannounced MMO / New intellectual property having something to do with HP Lovecraft and the Cthuhlu Mythos.

Is it possible since Blizzcon, and the Arkham Nights Weekend are both 22-24, that we may see an announcement of some kind of Collaborative project between these two companies?

Considering that FFG has worked with Blizzard in the past on WoW and Starcraft related BGs, I don't think this is too far fetched, ok, perhaps a little.

But how awesome would Arkham Horror be as an MMO ?

I would say that dreams an coinciding event dates are insufficient to formulate a theory. But wishing can't hurt.

Yes its probably a shot in the dark, but I rarely remember my dreams...and considering the content of this one I felt obligated to share my possible precognition !

That all depends on what you'd be spending your money on otherwise. I avoided MMOs for a long time for exactly this reason, but I was spending on average probably $40-$60 a month on games for the GameCube/Xbox/GBA/PC. Since I started playing WoW about 2 years ago, the only console games I've played are the ones I've borrowed from friends. The only one I bought was MW2. So, at least in my case, $15/mo is hella cheaper than $40-$60/mo.

Perhaps you're of the pirate persuasion (no need for recorded confessions, I assure you), or perhaps you don't play that many video games to begin with, but for me, having an MMO to keep me busy has been a huge boon on my pocketbook. And as far as console games go, I'm only borrowing the ones my friends reccomend, which has helped me skip all the mediocre trash and impulse buys, so all in all my gaming experiences have only gone up.

I'm not saying you're wrong to feel this way, btw. I'm just saying there is another side to the coin.

It's possible, I suppose. The public domain stature of HPL's own work would make this more likely than, say, a Terrinoth MMO. That said, I'm skeptical about how likely it is in the first place. It's true FFG and Blizzard have worked together in the past, although I haven't seen any great overtures between them recently, so it's hard to say what the current status of their professional relationship is. Of all the big name third party companies out there, FFG seems to be wooing GW the most these days.

I would be intrigued by an Arkham MMO, at least enough to read up on it. Not sure if I would actually subscribe on a recurring basis, though.

For me MMOs are less about money and more about time, OK a little about money, a combination of the two. If I'm paying a monthly fee to play a game I don't feel I'm getting my moneys worth if I don't invest some time into playing it, my interest also tends to cycle through various pastimes that I enjoy so walking away from an MMO for a month or so while I concentrate on enjoying other things becomes a total waste. Mix that with the ultimate time sink, kids (I don't even play Arkham Horror before 8pm because of little hands) and I find that MMOs just aren't for me.
