is it an option in talisman? i have killed my character on purpose to draw a new one and start over. there are games where you get bogged down and cant get anything going while you opponents are racking up stat point after stat point. i moved to the desert with one life left in case you were wondering.
suicide
Of course in the game players allow other players to re-draw.
One game I pulled the minstrel.
I commited Hari-Kari. Though I made it to the end of the dungeon, which surprised everyone.
In my opinion that is the fastest way to kill off an unwanted character. Specially with so many 3 card draws, and the tough dungeon monsters.
My wife hates certain characters. She'll deal with most of them, but for some, she does commit character oblivion. Unless you're the Troll, fastest way, for us, is to charge the Sentinel over and over and over again. If you win, come back down and try again to lose.
We have an inheritance house rule where you get +1 to Strength and Craft on your next character, plus pick your favourite follower and object, except if it's suicide, in which case you get nothing. This is repeated 3 times altogether although we've never had a player need to do inheritance more than once. Plus we pick from 3 characters from the get go, so most people pick something they like well enough. So we've never had anyone attempt or commit suicide in the game, ever.
i want to play at your house inkblob. you should tough it out if you can. our group has a no bowing out policy. if you can kill your character fine but quitters are not allowed. starting new post inquiring about character picking method and picking new characters when your first one has died and/or offed him or herself.
So Punk666 is saying "Your weak".
Tough it out, if you truly don't like your choice make choices in game play that are risky and dangerous. Yet, the game is based on choice. If we want to allow you to play any character you wish, there would be no limited choice like 'choose one character' or 'choose three and one'. It boils down the play group itself and how they wish to address this
Yet, my solution is I will be doing all the characters myself and want to make them so I feel comfortable with any choice, and playing any character and having to face any one of them. I don't want to feel a choice is weak or less, or not as good as another. Sure some will have uniquely cool abilities, like Teleport for the Leprechaun, but if something is lacking on a character I will go through the forum and hear opinions and consider it.
For example, I read that the Elf would do well if he could travel to any Forest space in the middle or outer region. Honestly, that won't break his game balance and in fact, I would almost rather just have the Leprechaun, yet the Elf would have things, like greater combat ability which could make him an equally attractive character to play. So you should not get him and say 'Gee, that's awesome, I'm the Elf please shoot me in the head'.
What I am suggesting is that the best way to design things like characters is through spirited discussion and debate since the real playtest of any game is once it is released. It is a public playtest. I want to tap into that and design the characters even better than the original. I'm not complaining about the official effort, instead I merely am bypassing such discussion and moving straight to the 'do it yourself' option but love and appreciate the game, and the fact that doing up my own set of characters is easy since all the tools are there for me to do so (thus it isn't as hard as you might think but that is a good thing).
Instead I call for comments. Let's here what you do and especially don't like about certain characters. All of it is feedback and food for thought, and though I'm not an official employee, I will collect what I produce and post it on the home brew section so anyone can use it if they wish OR take what I did and adjust to suit your own needs as I am a gamer like you and unlike many real game designers I do want to empower the player to make the game how they wish to enjoy it (that is not so much a reference to Fantasy Flight as it is to many rpg game designers). Like any good designer though, game balance is King, and fun is Queen so any resulting characters should be both: balanced and fun.
foreshadow you are weak. inkblob isn't because he tends to play with agewise younger people than i do. although, probably more mature than my group. if you are going to pick your character or design one with abilities of your liking the game you are playing isn't called talisman. its called AD&D maybe 2nd edition before there was a THACO. mine is 16 whats yours?
"Is suicide an option" is a question I hear whenever I suggest a game of TALISMAN. Oh well.
