Cohesion confusion

By Deity_Diablo, in Deathwatch

Hi and thanks for any replies, as a new GM to Death Watch, reading through the rules I noticed I have come across one in particular which im uncertain about which is Cohesion points and here are my questions...

1- I understand that Coheision points are from command and fellowship of the current leader, what I dont understand is whither every individual get their own pool of coheision from this number or whither it is pooled together.

2-The skills and abilities attached to squad mode are these simply gained automatically with only rank being a pre-requirement, thus all new created character automatically gain their squad mode abilities for Chapter and so on...

Thanks for all replies for this has been boggling me happy.gif

1. The size of the cohesion pool is determined by the squad leader (as per that table +their FB, at rank one, it could be anywhere from 3-8), and is shared for the entire group, as in their is one total cohesion value for the squad, that everyone subracts from when they activate powers.

2. Every character has, and can use their own chapters squad abilities. The other abilities are determined by oath, as per the table with the oaths listed. They improve by rank, yes, but the squad will never have the option of using "all" of them during any one mission.

Sadly, this is a poorly written (but kind of cool) section, be on the lookout for an errata, and check out the stickyed thread for more info.

Thanks for the information it clears up alot happy.gif

What has boggled me with the cohesion is the rationale of, let's call it, mmmh, intimacy. So if the squad knows each other well, the leader good and the men experienced, there's more cohesion.

But I didn't find a mechanism to raise cohesion for that group based on collective experience - shouldn't this be a (very cool) way to reward the players other than EXP and renown ?

Any ideas mechanics-wise ? Maybe something progressively harder, ie chance of increase after one collective mission, after two, three, four missions on top of one another or somesuch....

There are bonuses to cohesion for Rank. I think that encompasses your 'shared' experience thought. With the amount of Cohesion easily available and the numerous ways to refill it, I don't think it really needs any further bumps. If you have any tac marine, you have plenty of Cohesion. If you have an Ultramarine, you'll have it coming out of your ears.
