Professor Smith-Art
Great picture - very nice....can you tell me what Lovecraft story this guy appears in and what he is known for ?
Thank you!
According to a friend of mine, in one of the stories (he couldn't remember exactly which) there is a cultist that takes a 'Professor Smith' alias to infiltrate Miskatonic University. I have no idea, though, if this is the same character, the Morgan Smith who authored 'The Sign of the Skull' or a different, made-up character.
Thank you again, Tiziano!
If you want to see more Cthulhu art from FFG, you can visit this post of spanish forum .
Yet another great piece that immediately caught my eye when looking through the cards in the new set!
The casket, the painting, the lamp, and lighting combine to create an eerie image, indeed.
Thanks for sharing!
Too bad this wasn't in Stahleck!
Konx.
Yeah, this one is just awesome !!!
Love the way the professeur look's seems used, aged and prepared to face the unknown.
It comes in second place in my "Tiziano's top 5" .
Thank you very much for sharing this with us, this is a magnificient job !

Thank you for your appreciation and for the link, Been able to see so many of the CoC illustrations in a single thread is inspiring.
Jhaelen Thank you very much, I hoped I'd be able to convey an eerie, slightly out of kilter feel to the image, I'm really glad that you felt it.
Konx
: happy you like him this much, Francesco. In any case I
do
mail prints too (both sizes)
PRODIGEE merci beaucoup, I'm honored. Now I'm also curious, though, what's your personal top 5?
Well, if I have to spoil my personnal Top 5, I must say that it's strictly personnal and only refers to my own feelings ...
1 : Blasphemous Dreams
I only refers to this one as the greatest card produced in the Dreamland Edition. The character's position, it's mimic as he's sleeping and get hurt ... This is a marvelous picture to have in one's deck !
2. The Prof Smith
Because it's the most Cthulhu related, because the proposition are nice and the angles are simply perfects. THe way you've worked on the lights and shadows is a huge stuff. Love it !
3. The Senator
Simply because of the eyes and the posture. You can feel the inner power of the old man. Simply pure and fine. The only reason why I don't put it in top position is because of the handkerchief position, we've already spoken about that !
4. Dangerous Inmate
Even if I don't know how you portrait such frealy characters, I'm totally amazed by the way you captured the syringe in motion. This is a great job!
5. Is yet to come ... still studying !!!
Thank you so much, PRODIGEE, your list and comments are a great help to me to better understand which elements in my paintings work the best for you, and thus you give me pointers on what to take into account for future art. That's invaluable to me.
Looks a bit like Bernard Hill as King Theoden. I wonder if maybe that's a bit of foreshadowing to Tiziano's LOTR work...
Love the beard detail! Various shades of gray, random strands straying off the edge. I think it would drive me insane to try to depict all those individual hairs.
You are simply a master of shadow. His face and hands...darkly breathtaking. You're pretty good at rumpled clothing too. The blending of green and yellow is warm yet unsettling.
As with the wood etching on "Senator Rhodes", the ornate box is covered in flowery metalwork that is almost easily overlooked as just old-fashioned leafy design. Yet you can clearly see a few tentacles blended into the foliage. That painting ain't too trustworthy either. One can clearly see how much fun you have in your insidious corruption of antiques.
You are a sinister, sinister artist to create such a grotesque light source.
Who the hell would own a lamp like that??? I couldn't sleep with such a vile thing in the house. Is it just a coincidence that it's looking right at the box...or is it LOOKING RIGHT AT THE BOX?? The new Doctor Who's Weeping Angels have sworn me off stone faces in my place: "Don't BLINK!" That thing's gonna leap off its pedestal and throttle the poor guy any second now.
A bit quieter than your last few pics, but not any less fantastic!
I have not really a best of 5 for Tiziano but I'm agree with Prod', your best one is Blasphemous Dreams . Something from Titien in this picture. All is good, The dark-light and composition work well. Something both classical and not classical, perfect for the dreamland or Lovecraft spirit. it's a paint to see in a big format.
I Love very much what you have done for the Dreamland Cycle.
jgt7771 Honestly I've never painted for such keen, attentive eyes as I've found in the CoC community. You got my 'Easter Eggs' (or should I say 'Halloween Pumpkins'?) in the card: the hidden tentacles in the silver box, the hinted figures in the painting..and, of course, the lamp is looking at the box on purpose.
I sort of wonder what will happen next ;-), It's great fun for me to play with subtle distortions and see how unsettling can I make an image while not having anything openly scary or gorish in it, I'm glad the fun is shared.
Dadajef Thank you so much! Blasphemous Dreams was my very first card for CoC , it's great to know that it is liked this strongly. That it reminds you of Titien is a stunning compliment, he was the absolute master of portraits, in my opinion (besides, a funny thing is that since I and the Master have the same first name, Blasphemous Dreams is a Titian, so to speak ;-) ).
Is it bad that I want to run my hand through his beard? It looks so soft and fuzzy! ^^
