Difference between weapons?

By Bearpaw, in Tannhauser

Can someone be so kind as to quickly list the difference between the various hardware weapons, mainly melee, pistols, automatics and heavy?

I seem to recall hearing or reading that the choice of weapons is dependant on how far your target is removed, eg. melee for adjacent targets, pistols if they're one circle away, automatic if they're two circles away, heavy if they're farther away, tho I can't find this anywhere in the manual so I assume the revised rules changed these?

Also, in the back of the revised rules are the three maps, Castle Ksiaz; Catacombs and Tesla Priory, with context for the various objectives below them. The context for the Castle and Catacombs maps are identical however, probably an oversight with printing, has there been any workaround for this?

In revisited rules there is no minimal range for weapons. The advantage for melee is small. For example barry can overwatch with his knife since heavy weapons can't go for overwatch, yea that isn't much. So the only advantage for melee weapons are traits that make them somewhat more powerfull. (Like stosstrupen can have up to 7 dice if you take the new Command pack. Zor'ka 's attack ...), however in base game melee weapons were kinda ultimate choice for most situations. Heavy weapons were weak (since their min. range 4), in revisited rules they are much more useful. So I don't find melee weapons THAT weak. Also last advantage of melee is that in smoke you can attack only with melee (unless you have nightvision). Pistols are generic weapons and roll 4 attack dice, automatic roll 5 dice. Simple table from rules:

  • No weapon (still melee) - 2 dice
  • Hand-to-Hand (likne knife) - 4 dice
  • Pistol - 4 dice
  • Mental - 4 dice
  • Automatic - 5 dice

Last pages are misprinted, however there's isn't any official errata, yet.
