Im a newb! with a couple of questions.

By Mojjo, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Ok so I have recently bought Descent and a couple of expansions.
So I have learned in the book that I can add the additional monster cards to the OL's deck and because they cost no treachery they stay, thus adding more cards to the OL deck and not taking any out.

When you have these monster cards from 2 or more expansions do you just add the monsters from both or do you have to take some of them out? This is assuming you are playing a basic Descent dungeon?

Basically if you have all the expansions can you add all of the monsters that don’t cost any treachery and have them all in the OL deck? Regardless of which expansion you’re playing?

I was also wondering about shipping. Do you have to spend the 3 movement in town to sell or buy or just buy?
When it says you can reequip at the start of your turn does that take movement points? Or is it free but if you want to equip during your turn after the start it takes 2 movement to do this? What about when you shop and/or get a treasure can you just change around your equipment when this happens? What about if someone gives you an item and your now over can you move things around to now have that item equipped?

Thanks for helping.

You can play base quests with expansion material just fine. You should, of course, be using ALL the expansion material if you're using any of it. So, if you want to leave the expansion monster cards in there, you should also leave the same expansion heroes in the hero pool, expansion skills and treasures in their respective decks, etc.

If you decide you don't want to play with expansion material, all the cards are marked with a specific expansion symbol so they can be easily sorted out. But it's ultimately up to you whether you want to play with the expansion in or not. There's no rule against using Well of Darkness cards while playing an Altar of Despair quest, for example. It's your choice, as a group.

Yes. That's what I do, and I rather suspect most other people do, too. If you and yours don't want to, though, there are the expansion symbols I mentioned ot help you clear out unwanted expansion material. In fairness, you should ensure all of a given expansion is removed if any of it is being removed.

Shopping costs 3 MP to buy and sell anything and everything you want for one turn. As much as you can afford or spare.

You get one free "re-equip" action in Step 2 of the Hero Turn. This does not cost MP and you can freely rearrange everything your hero is carrying subject to normal equipping rules (ie: only two hands worth of stuff equipped, etc.) You can do the same thing again later in your turn, but it costs 2MP to take the action, and you can freely rearrange everything. This is useful if you want to, for example, attack something with your sword and then switch to two shields for the upcoming OL turn (yes, equipping two shields is legal, though it's often more trouble than it's worth.)

Whenever you receive a new equipment card, from shopping, from opening a chest, or from another hero, you may immediately equip that item if you like, moving anything else you had equipped to your backpack in the process. You cannot rearrange other gear aside from whatever was in the slot(s) that the new item may legally occupy. This is true regardless of whose turn it currently is. Do note, however, that you can only give things on your turn. So if you and another hero want to trade one item you have for another item he has, then you will need to give him your item on your turn and he will need to give you his item on his turn. This becomes important if you're trying to do other things like attack monsters at the same time - you need to make sure you're both adjacent at some point during each of your turns.

Thanks Steve-O that helps me out a lot.

The reason Steve is suggesting an all-or-nothing approach to the expansion material is that it would be unfair to use some and not the rest. This is per expansion he means, not all expansions or no expansions.

Giving the OL Treachery and no boost for the heroes is unfair.
Giving the heroes Feats and no boost for the OL is unfair.
etc. etc.

However you want to keep the deck the same number of cards otherwise it takes longer for the Overlord to deck himself and this would be to the heroes advantage.

So when your adding the monster cards from an expantion or multiple expantions that dont have a treachery cost associated with them they just go into the deck making it larger, is that correct?

I understand when your using treachery cards they have a cost and you take cards out keeping the deck the same size.

Yes, cards with no treachery cost from all expansions are added directly to the base deck.

Yes on the second count as well.

Correct and correct.

Each expansion tells you to add its (normal) cards to the deck (making it larger). By the time you add in treachery as well there is more than enough extra power to balance out the cost to the OL of having a larger deck.

WoD pg3
Three of the new overlord cards are intended to be added to the overlord deck from the base game (2 copies of “Kobold Swarm” and 1 copy of “Ferrox Tribe”).
AoD pg4
Six of the new overlord cards are intended to be added to the overlord deck (1 copy each of “Danger,” “Dark Balm,” “Crushing Block,” “Paralyzing Gas,” “Blood Ape Tribe,” and “Black Order”).
ToI pg3
Four of the new Overlord cards are intended to be added to the Overlord deck from the base game (one copy each of “Lava Beetle Scouts,” “Shade Spooks,” “Lone Medusa,” and “Lone Wendigo”). Note that there is no lone wendigo card and this should be 3.
