A semantic question

By Shindulus, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

I have a question about

Greater Heal :

Action: Heal all damage on your units.

Let's suppose that I control a unit A own by my opponent and he controls units B own by me.

From a semantic point of view "your units" only refer to the units we own, technicaly unit from my opponent I control are not mine and it is the same for my opponent.

So, when it's time to resolve greater heal :

- I don't heal B, own by me, but controled by my opponent.

- I heal A controled by my opponent, but own by me. (for sure this case is an usual case that we can have during a game)

Is this way of resolving the correct one, as this is the way you have to, or it was not the "spirit" in which the card has been created?

When a card says "your" <something> it is referring to any <something> that you control at that time. If the card is just trying to interact with cards you own, it will say "you own" or "... owners ..."

Ok so you are doing an abusive use of the language in your case to justify one way of resolving the card.

"your" is by definition an attributive adjective denoting the possession and not the control. (and even more with the equivalent used as translation in my natural language)

My problem is that :

- We use your/mine to determine what you own / I own, this is the semantic of your and mine.

- When it's time to play WHI the rules are precise :

There can be difference between what I own and what I control.

But as your/mine etc etc etc are not redifined in the rules from a semantic point of view it refers to what you own or I own ....(maybe it is, but I did not find it).

And as Your/mine have not been "clarified" in the rules you have to use the semantic of the word and not use them in an abusive use of language.

I agree that can be ambigous and not the way the card have been made, that's why I ask the question here to get an answer :-).

So I get my official answer this is ruled as you say entropy which is quite understandable even if it is not the Vulcans way of resolving the card :-).

(this will make part of the FAQ in my natural language as "your units" make reference to the units you control)

So you submitted this to James and got a response? If so, can you please post the full question and answer so I can add it to the unofficial FAQ.

I did not post it by myself I ask to someone of the company which edit the game in my country and they ask to FFG.

So I only get the answer in my natural language.

Can you please give me a link to your unofficial FAQ? (or is it the link in your signature?)

It is the link in my signature. I guess I will just paraphrase the Q&A for the rules summary.
