Crown of Winter / Crown of Azor Ahai Interaction

By Dr.Cornelius, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Our playgroup is stumped: How do these two cards interact?

Crown of Azor Ahai
Type: Attachment House: Baratheon
Cost: 1
Item. Crown.
Unique House Baratheon character only. Setup.
If Crown of Azor Ahai is standing and White Raven is not in play, it is Summer.
If Crown of Azor Ahai is knelt and Black Raven is not in play, it is Winter.
Any Phase: Kneel Crown of Azor Ahai.

Crown of Winter
Type: Attachment House: Stark
Cost: 2
Item. Crown.
Stark unique character only. Attached character gets +2 STR and is immune to opponent's events and character abilities. If the Black Raven card is not in play, it is Winter.

What do you mean "how do they interact"? They don't. They are two separate cards whose resolutions have nothing to do with each other.

Now, if you're asking "what happens if neither the Black Raven nor the White Raven are in play, and both Crowns are in play standing," the answer is pretty simple - it is both Winter and Summer at the same time. Both effects are valid, so both apply. There is nothing more complicated than that in terms of the "interaction" of these two cards.

I assume what you're really stumped by is "what do I do with all the other cards if it is Winter and Summer at the same time?" The answer to that is also pretty straight forward - you resolve every "if it is Winter" and "If it is Summer" effect on each card with the check for both seasons as "true"; if there are conflicts, the First Player chooses the order of resolution.

Essentially, I'm guessing that your instincts are rebelling against the idea that it could be Winter and Summer at the same time, but there is nothing in the game that prevents it. And there are really no card situations that cannot be worked out if it does happen.

From what I understand it can be Winter and Summer at the same time.
