An idea for Halloween night

By rustorod, in Dark Heresy

I was going to have a game night on Halloween and was thinking of using Ravenloft for the spirit of the night. Any thought how to use undead with DH/RT, how to hurt them or what their effects would be on the characters? I was also thinking of using Sinister Secret of Salt Marsh and having a sinister plot of chaotic priests trying to summon Cthulian nasties.Thought it would be fun to use an old AD&D module. If anyone has ideas or plot twists that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike

Love the idea...My old gaming group back in HS did a halloween weekend session where we had over 20 players and 45 PCs in group and we ran through a ravenloft type mini campaign.....by the end we had 4 PCs left and whoever survived ...their character earned something extra special like a powerstone+3) or some special weapon unique to the class..at end of the campaign they all woke up at their campsite...the entire scenario was a dream of ravenloft...so no one actually lost out...but those who got through...got something fun for their troubles....

As for the undead option...thats actually an easy one. there is a supplemental adventure in DH for just that kind of thing. its called forsaken bounty. but if you dont have it or dont have time to get it i have a few other ideas as well.

1) typical undead zombies etc...( id personally max their HP ) 1-2 HD / #attacks - 1 ( attacks last unless they gain surprise somehow )

Typical stats: WS:35 BS:0 S:30(X2) T:40(X2) AG:20 INT:0 PER: 30(X2) WP:0 FEL:0

2) as for anyone you want to have controlling them....id say the limit to their total number to control would be their willpower bonus..( or 2-4 times that if they are a specialist chaos sorcererlengua.gif)

3) Special weaknesses- fire ( undead take x2 damage from all fire based attacks ) / Force based psy powers do full normal damage

4) Special resistances- undead are immune to mind control abilities as well as Fear, pinning, morale, etc....

normal weapons ( swords guns etc ) and Biolightning does HALF normal damage

5 Special abilities- unnatural strength , unnatural toughness , unnatural perception, does NOT fatigue , immune to Zero G spacing ( can function as normal in void without void suit)

Hope you enjoy the ideas here.

How's this: the PCs are sent to inverstigate the dissappearance of one of their Inquisitor's other (non-party) Acolytes, who was sent to take possession of a newely-discovered artifact from a wealthy nobleman, who's workmen discovered it while excavating for a new wing on the noble's mansion located in a remote mountain range on a sparsely-populated planet. Naturally, the artifact turns out to be warp-cursed, and it has turned the nobleman into a lifeforce-draining, nigh-invulnerable 'undead' mastermind who has killed all of his household staff and the missing Acolyte. Unsure of the party's power, he will feign civility, offer them lodging and invite them to dinner, toying with them as he tries to bump them off one by one. When the party catches on to what is happening, the nobleman will use his warp-powers to animate the corpses of his previous victims (use the profile for Warp Zombies from the Rogue Trader introductory module Forsaken Bounty) to attack the party en masse.

Cobramax76,

Thanks for the ideas, gives me some ideas to work with. My friend DM'ed Ravenloft back in the '80's during high school and I invited too many people over. We ended up with 18 different people all wanting to wander all over the place. It was fun, chaotic, but fun.

Thanks.

Adeptus-B,

thats a good way to create the mythos of the castle and the land and gives me ideas to create a bit of fun history. I can see some side plots with that too.

Thanks for the input.

Adeptus-B:

I know it's just the plot for Dracula, but still I would never have thought of it. I'm cross-genre blind, apparently. Sounds like a hoot, I may steal it. :P

Check out the Dark Pacts section in the DH Rulebook: the 'Pact of Survival' sounds a lot like vampirism to me- just expand the Unnatural Toughness part to apply to all attacks and not just poison/disease, and there you go. How's this: the daemonic artifact is in the form of a large scarab, made from a fist-sized crystal set in a frame of bronze. In the pict the Inquisitor shows the PCs, the crystal appears to be dull grey- but now the artifact is attached to the nobleman's chest, the legs of the scarab digging into his flesh between his ribs, and the 'awakened' crystal pulses with a red light in imitation of an unholy heartbeat (he keeps it hidden under an ornate breastplate when he initially meets the PCs). Any injuries inflicted on the nobleman (Graff Orlocus?) will eventually Regenerate. Only destroying the crystal with a Called Shot- such as stabbing through the heart- will kill the undead monster...

There are some good zombie rules in DotDG too. The best takeaway from that is make it so only head and chest critical can kill zombies. Nothing to focus the Acolytes' attention like an enemy that can casually lose an arm and keep fighting without pause!

I like the Dark Pact idea, I just read it and it works very nicely. Your scenarios are very good and give me ways to work Ravenloft in.

Thanks.

I never picked up DotDG, is it a good supplement?

Thanks.

It's probably my favorite supplement book- lots of cool plot seeds for scenarios.
